Don't worry, sounds more like a case of a dumb-ass Squadron Commander trying to be "politically correct" than a case of "Vietnam-syndrome"!
We've got loads of them over here ....perhaps an officer exchange?

That happens across the pond for sure. I heard on a national talk radio show that a man was spit on in Ithaca NY (very close to me) for simply having a yellow "support our troops" ribbon. Ridiculous!
I dont want to risk getting too political, but come on! Spitting on a man for respecting U.S. soldiers? I too have my bayonet ready.....

What really gets me is that Baptist Church, I forget what their name is but the one that protests soldiers FUNERALS!? Come on, protest the war sure everyone has a right to do so but a FUNERAL!? Have some class, seriously....
And that's just one ridiculous thing they do

Disgusting. I tell ya if one of my family died in conflict and that bunch turned up at the funeral....Well they would need more than one grave!
