In an attempt to try and drum up some excitement around here, her is a sneak preview of what I am currently working on. This is day 4 of this model and it is getting there. Alot of work to be done.
There are rules to posting here though...anyone who posts "when is it coming" will have their post removed because we've kept previous projects in the dark because people were nagging about ETA's of models. It will be ready when its ready, which will be as soon as possible, remember we have lives as well, although mine is mostly taken up with this while the missus is at work and the baby is at her Grandma's every day. It will be released in an MAIW package only not standalone. Once it is released in a package I will produce the paintkit.
This will be for FS9, will have a Helicopter FDE, will be fully animated and will feature the AH-64 A and Longbow D, plus Dutch and Israeli version, and the UK WAH-64. With multiple loadouts.
Enjoy.

Quick question Nick, can you make flyable LOD'd models, and doe it have any effect?

A multi-lod flyable model wouldn't help much methinks because when you are flying it...it's always at lod 1.

Dan, I think he's after a model that would be welcomed by those that fly on line. It would be an advantage to them, I think.

Oh! You are right. I completely forgot about that having never flown online before.

From a logic standpoint it seems the answer would be yes. Instead of making low poly, it would be high poly and decrease with each LOD. So the 8th or 9th LOD might have as many as the 1st LOD of AI aircraft.
Looks good, Nick. Keep up the good work!

Great work, anyway to scratch this and get a true AI H-60? Just kidding, I'm using the T. Woods AH-64 flyable model. Just moved to Ft. Hood, TX, so I need FPS friendly models to populate the central TX skies.

After the Tomcats, I was too afraid to ask! Can't wait. If you guys need anything, I've been with the H-60 series for 15 years (US Navy/Army).

Hi Nick,
Very nice and glad to see a proper AI Apache on the way. As you know, I spend a lot of time on the fence at Wattisham with camera and scanner - if you want any help with callsigns/AFCAD/AH loadouts and configurations, let me know.
Gary
PS from a visit this week - ZJ231, "Army Air 312" on a air test.

OK Guys....here is almost the finished LOD1 of the AH64A standard version. I will be doing the A and D Longbow, in its various versions...with multiple loadout options.
Hope you like the picture..I certainly did when taking it during model testing.
On the subject of making my models flyable...there are alot of problems that throws up. The biggest thing in my case is that I use alot of get-out clauses to make the model low-poly, which means I can bend the rules of how a part of the aircraft looks, and usually use textures to cover up what Ive done, whereas a flyable model would require much greater detail. If you look at flyable models you arent going to get many, even the lower quality ones that are below 25000 polys, whereas this AI Apache is below 5000 at the moment.
That of course not to mention the fact that I'd have to get a good FDE made to allow it to fly, and all control surface animations would have to be modified. I dont really think its a road Im willing to go down. I always fly my AI aircraft anyway.

Nick,
is there anyway you could do a version that doesn't have the Preflight stuff attached like Tie downs etc and Closed Canopy's so that they can be used to represent other People when using FSInn and flying online?
I ask this because i use all my MAIW Models for when im flying online, and its rahter comical Forming up on a Hawk with its Remove before Flight Streamers still attached

I'll look into it mate after Ive got the other stuff out of the way...this is a big project, and it'll take me a while.
I would be opening up a can of worms I feel and would have requests for alsorts of models for multiplayer.
