Light blocks on FS9 scenery.

Hi all,

Yet again I'm afraid I'me looking for some help, please! This problem has bugged me for a long time know and I'm not sure when it started. Basically, as soon as the subject aircraft is off the ground the terrain around the subject (either flying or AI, the same happens to both) colours a shade lighter than the rest of the terrain, and this effect keeps pace under the aircraft as I move across the terrain, with new blocks shading as I pass, always keeping the same grid area underneath me. It only stops when either I go very high, or am on the ground.

I can't think when this started though, I do have both Ground and Flight enviroment installed but have uninstalled both at various times with no change. I did think it was normal with FS9 and I'd just never noticed it before but I see screenies from many others without the problem - has anybody got any ideas, please?

Here's a couple of shots to give you the idea, one taken while on 'spot' mode - can you see the edge of the area above the Tornado's fuselage, just down the approach from Marham's runway.

The other is taken from the overhead view and shows the whole plan of the lighter grid below me. I've done a good search on the web and can't find any mention of it.

I have no idea why it should be doing that, Gary, but my guess its graphics card related. If you the colour blocks around the aircraft my guess is that is to do with the terrain settings in the fs9.cfg.

How you would make it better I wouldn't know, my guess would be to keep a copy of your current fs9.cfg and then search the web for tips for the cfg. There are several for the terrain settings. These may help.

Thanks for that Steve, I never did thank you for your answer about the Harpoon's on the new AI Orion (it did work).

I do have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS which was fitted about a year ago, on a three year old system - it may have started at the same time, not sure. About the FS9.cfg, I've made a copy. If I was to do a fresh install of FS9 on another system, which has never had FS on, could I then paste across the CFG from that, hoping it clears the problem or would the file be specific to the system's it being run on and not compatiable (the one I'm thinking of is a brand new Vista system where as mine's XP). It's just a stab in the dark as I don't know much about it.
