Can you identify this airfield

I was working on landclassing the Tyndall AFB area in FSX and ran into a bit of strangeness - an unidentifiable airfield in my sim.

Google pic of area

Sim pic of the field http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z66/ ... nknown.jpg

As you can see, it's "misplaced" according to Google no matter what the ident and right now, my GPS doesn't list it as anything in "Nearest".

Any help would be appreciated.

I looked over the latest sectional for that area, and nothing is depicted. 2PAM for the QF-4's shows up but nothing. Surprised since when I flew in west Pcola real world the unused OLF's where still charted as they should be for navigation only.

I zoomed in on the unknown airfield in Google Earth, and found craters.

May be you've stumbled across something "spooky"?

I had seen that airfield before. I got the conclusión that it was some kind of bombing range.

Maybe in it's old times it opperated some aircraft

I appreciate all the comments so far.

I'm still looking for the name - whether it's a former/current bomb range or whatever.

I've looked at a site that "specializes" in abandoned and inactive Florida airfields as well as others and still don't have a clue.

My point is, it's "in my sim", it's misplaced, and I can't identify it. I definitely want to know what the name of any airfield, inoperative or not, is in "my sim".

Edit to add: I would bet money it's not used as a bomb range. The surrounding area is maintained, unpockmarked, and still "manned" it seems to me. The craters are definitely there, but that's "it" as far as damage to this little complex.

It's used for Rapid Runway Repair Exercises. They put big holes in it and then Red Horse fixes it.

Cheers

Thanks Jetmax!

Now I have to see if it is named in FSX so that I can move it.

Edited to add: Nope. Pfftooie. I have no clue what to do with it now and this is very frustrating.

No problem.. I went to the NCO Academy at KPAM and we use to pass silver flag on our way out to Mexico Beach.

For those of you with FS9 still installed, does this airfield exist in FS9? If so, what is its ICAO?

Hey Ford, I just looked in 2PAM in afcad and it looks like that airport is part of that afcad.

I am completely embarassed but extremely grateful.

I actually looked at 2PAM twice and apparently did not zoom out far enough to see that that was part of the 2PAM afcad. Please, stone me with many wet noodles -- afterwards, please go have a pint on me!

Thanks.

Doh!

Edited to add:
I hope that no one who worked with designing the MAIW 2PAM afcad took anything I said as something negative. What I am doing is strictly Google Earth based and I had no idea that the "abandoned" airport was included as part of 2PAM. FSX's landclassing (including Scenery Tech's, FSGenesis's and MS Default's versions) for this area sucketh the big one and I was simply trying to match up what I see in Google Earth with the sim's presentation. Obviously, MAIW's 2PAM afcad worked just fine as it is for everyone - even me up until today. Then my anal psychosis checked in. ;) Thanks to all for their assistance today and to MAIW staff/contributors for providing 2PAM prior to now. For my system, I'll probably split off this abandoned airfield simply to keep things more obvious for myself.

Is KPAM (Tyndall AFB) in a package I've somehow missed? If so, would someone please tell me which package it is? Thanks.

Edited heavily
It's the package the QF4's came in. Not an official package but a thread here on the forums referenced the package made by flyboy/Mark Walsh.

This thread - QF4 flightplans...

Edited to add:>>>>
The afcad is actually in this thread: http://www.militaryaiworks.com/forum/vi ... hlight=qf4
End of edit

I guess that when I initially downloaded and installed this a year ago, I added "MAIW" to it to identify where I got it from... But I guess it's not truly official. Shows you what head injuries do to memory.

Sorry for any confusion.

There are two AFCADs for KPAM referenced, but not 2PAM. So I made one up based loosely on what GE shows. If anyone wants a copy let me know and I'll upload it.

Informational post.

Well, after scrambling around, and with help here, I finally actually identified the 2PAM afcad I had installed.

Seems it came from Alphasim - from an FSX update to their payware FS9 Tyndall AFB package. The update is freely available on Flightsim.com and I had "cheated" - installed the update without paying for the payware. They had the afcad I originally posted about - complete with the "abandoned airfield" located and oriented incorrectly.

Whew.. Glad I got it sorted out.

Edited to add: The link to the scenery update is http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kdl/main/8 ... p?kBEoX02R
File name is tyndfsx.zip
