Something I have been working on for a looooong time

it is about %75 complete. I'm hoping to get a good jump on it over the 3 day weekend, i've only been able to mess with it on the weekends.
I had no idea Travis had so many planes!
A row of C-5's from the 22nd AS

some KC-10's from the 6th ARS:

Some C-17's from the 21st AS:

Hefty 63 taking off:

Extender 22 Ready for takeoff:

Covert 55 doing some TNG's
the afcad still needs some tweaking & and a few excludes made now that i got all the planes painted and loaded up, but here is a screenshot of what i have so far:

Absolutely wonderful! I returned from the far east back in the day on a 14 hour charter flight that terminated At Travis. I can remember that it was hot, and that customs was set up in a hanger like building - pretty sure it was a hanger - and that we (my wife and kids) had to stand/sit around while we waited for baggage to be off loaded, and then process through with a pretty through search (and I was carrying a large number of firearms, including a Colt Commander 9MM which caused considerable excitement, even tho I had the required ATF forms covering them.
From there direct onto a bus to KSFO, via Treasure Island, without an opportunity to refresh, to make a connection flight. That was in the day when it was possible to be spat upon if you were in uniform at the civilian terminal. It didn't happen to be, but I saw one soldier suffering from malaria being cursed out for being drunk buy some *&^%! Fortunately he had some buddies who were there to take care of him. As I was both in uniform, and with family I didn't attack, but the desire was there to do so.
The only good part of that day was at Travis, where we were treated well, and welcomed back home, with words that sounded genuinely sincere.
Looking forward to the availability of this, if you do in fact plan on making it available.

i do plan on making it availible to the public. I have to finish up some of the flightplans (381 legs so far) and do some call signs. I already know I won't be able to include the models but we all know where to find them

the only other thing I was kind of hoping for was another model of the C-5 to be availible but that can easily be changed in the future when one is availible. I tried to alpha channel out the limos but they still showed up.

Can't wait!!!! Looks like it's going to be a great package.

I have 328 legs and still counting on the flightplans for the McChord Rodeo package I am working on. The only repaints I'm using are from the MAIW packages. I have 7 C-5's but only 2 repaints, but like you said, it will be easy to fix once more repaints and model variations come available.
I'd like to learn how to do repaints!!!! I've even purchased Paint Shop Pro a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't found a good tutorial on repainting aircraft. If anyone know of one please let me know, it would be much appreciated.

if you need any repaints just ask! would be glad to help out

its easier to do with a paintkit but sometimes you have to make your own like i did for the C-5 & KC-10.

@ Ford.... Thanks for the link
@ dinocturnal....That would be great if you would like to share your textures of a 21st Airlift C-17, 22nd Airlift, and if you have any other C-5 Squadrons. If you need any help with your AFCAD or any other AFCAD or flightplans please let me know. Actually that goes for anyone, it's about time I contribute more to this fine community.

Looks like a very interesting package and a lot of work! I'm certainly looking forward to it.
You've done the afcad yourself, right? Looks like a truly accurate one.
Out of curiosity, have you done any landclassing at all? I'm assuming that that is FS9, right? Which, if any, landclass and/or scenery package are you using? The reason I ask, and this is certainly NOT a criticism, is that the surrounding area doesn't seem to match satellite photos landclass-wise -- including a river I can't identify.
This type of thing makes it tempting for me to "drop back" to FS9 and see if I can learn the FS9 tools for landclassing. Maybe... just maybe.

Yes, the afcad is mine. The only things i'm using with it is Megascenery N. California, and UT USA. I disabled the photoscenery for for this area while i'm working on it tho. does any one else have that river next to it?
I don't know a thing about landclasses or atleast how to change em. but for now i'll assume its ultimate terrain

From that answer, yep, seems to be the UT USA landclass then.
To get an idea of accuracy in landclassing, just take a look at the Google Earth satellite view of Travis and compare it to your picture. I looked really hard and can't find that river. MS Default landclassing in both FS9 and FSX has known issues with misplaced, non-existent and there-but-'what the ** is it" features like that. That's why there are add on landclass projects. Even those have areas where they are much more accurate than other areas.
Obviously, the MegaScenery Photoscenery should be more accurate - notice the should. The photoscenery is a texture overlaid onto the mesh. Then you *can* have a special autogen laid atop that - BUT the landclass may or may not actually be matched to the photoscenery itself. Doesn't THAT sound both fun and confusing?!?!
Anyhoo, again - my compliments. I'm looking forward to seeing how your afcad matches up with my FSX setup....fingers crossed and all that. I've got an FS2004 Travis scenery (ksuu_779.zip by Ron Rhea) installed for there now, but I hadn't gotten around to relandclassing the area --- running over to do that now. Lol!.
Edited: Found the 2 rivers (one of which I'd mistaken it for a road)... just looks overly large in your picture. And then the 2nd river was in clear in Google but not in your picture!

I'd be cool with the limos for now.... Like you said, it'll be an easy fix. Ohhhh crap.... I just realized something!!!!! I had downloaded Mike Pearson's textures for the C-5 and in the aircraft cfg. file it said it was for the CLOSED model, but I changed it to the LIMO model and when I went into the flight simulator to see the aircraft the aircraft had no textures....can someone please tell me that the textures are interchangeable with the C-5 models and that I had either 1) a bad set of textures or 2) I did something stupidly wrong, which wouldn't be the first time...lol. Please let it be #2
I'm really looking forward to this release.

cool, if you would like to create a new landclass for this, i can send you the afcad (not sure if you would need it)

the river does seem a bit to big, but i do see it on google earth. doesn't really bother me too much.
I probably won't be using the photoscenery any longer, i don't like the way the area looks at low level.

hmmm...I may even do the aero club if I can find the proper ai aircraft.

I agree that phtoscenery has "visual issues" at low levels. It really is intended for flights at least 3500 feet in altitude or above - especially in FS9 due to the limitations in the pixel per meter resolution. FSX can display much higher resolution photoscenery - but still looks fake (to me) at ground level.
The reason for taking a look at the afcad is to use natural/manmade features as area demarcations - where mowed grassy areas are vice cropland, for instance. If you've added a road, then that can act as a boundary. But, I'm going to work in FSX for right now - at least to see if I can make a worthwhile difference. To make it look good seems to be "art" just like painting aircraft textures and I don't consider myself an artist.
Anyway, keep plugging away. I know your package will be a hit from the reaction here in the forums.

We would have done a Travis package long ago if we could have gotten permission to use Charles Dayhuff's AI KC-10. But he said no so we've been waiting for a proper AI KC-10 to come along.
We've got the C-5 currently and it is being updated and of course the PAI C-17 from the good ole' days. But without that KC-10, we've just not had the motivation to do a full Travis package.
Good to see someone else working on a Travis package.

quick question, would it be ok to tell people to download the Andrews package wit the C-5 in order to use it for this package? Don't want to make anyone mad by doing so.
