B52?

This is my first post on MAIW but I'm a general AI nut and am always happy to have more AI in my FS world.

Quick question: From cruising the forum it appears that you have a B52 in development. Until it is complete has anyone used Mike Stones B52 as AI? I've had some success using his PBY, C130 and Grumman Goose as AI as his models tend to be very frame rate friendly. (Not as good as a multi LOD AI model but pretty good when compared to other flyable AC)

I'm going to give it a shot borrowing the Minot, Barksdale AFCAD's and FP's that are available on AVSIM and will advise if anyone is interested.

I know someone who is using that model for AI, however he is very limited in the number of a/c he can use before the fp's drop below acceptable.

At the time that Mike was designing aircraft they were the best thing out there. Since then more frame rate friendly models have appeared. This making most of Mikes stuff seem unusable.
If you have a high end machine you may be able to use several of his models as AI. But as posted before some machine simply won't handle more than a handful of his models.
There is no reason you can't or shouldn't use his models until something better comes along. I do, and I'm not sorry at all.

For a slightly different perspective, I've got Barksdale's parking lot full of Alphasim "AI" B-52's, maybe 2 dozen total. As most people here know, the Alphasim "AI" aircraft don't have multiple LODs and are, I believe, higher poly-count models than most of Mike Stone's stuff. In FSX, I get a flyable 8-14fps in a reasonably complex personal aircraft when I fly straight over the parking lot. ("Flyable" is very personal - what feels flyable for one person isn't for another.)

And Alphasim does stuff like leave their panel and sound entries in their [fltsim.x] entries for their "AI" aircraft - so I had to remove those.

So, try it. Your mileage may vary as they say.

Edited to change "An" to "And" 2nd to last para. Sorry.

i have 16 alphasim "ai" buffs at KMIB and have no problems with frame rates at all, every pc will vary.

My 2.5 ACM says:

LOD1 - 17.994
LOD2 - 3.452
LOD3 - 783

Bye

Whoop. I stand corrected.

I use a lot of Alphasim B-52s as AI with no problems. What I am waiting for as a flyable model is the Captain Sim's one shown here:

Hopefully a true dedicated AI version will be made. They are suppose to stay in the inventory a while longer.

is this good or bad?? i know absolutely nothing about models.
maybe i can convince alphasim to release their "ai" buff as freeware :?

LOD 1 is pretty heavy for an AI for example Henry's C-130 is only 2800 polys at LOD1.

I once tried to get them to model AI specific to go along with their payware models. They didn't seem to think it was a good idea at the time.
