I am new to MAIW. Have downloaded several packages. They are amazing and great quality.
My question is do you have to be at the specific airfield to have envolvement of the aircraft? In other words if I am flying my Cessna 182 over or near Biloxi, MS, will I hear or see aircraft from Keesler AFB?
Can hear them talk to ATC or ask for landing clerence from the tower?

Thanks for any help. This is an outstanding project, and you guys should be very proud.

As long as you have an MAIW package that populates that particular airbase and you're tuned in to the tower freq then YES, you will hear them and when they are in range you will see them.

Hello Harms and welcome to our forums. As Kevin said, yes you will hear and see them.

There is something called the active AI area, or something like that, which is a boxy shaped thing in which FS9 generates AI traffic. I think it's something like 128 NM wide and tall, that probably isn't 100% correct though. Point is that as long as you are inside the active AI area and the other AI traffic that you are looking for are currently inside the active AI area, then you should hear and see them.

If you don't hear or see them, they may simply not be in the active ai area at that time.

FS9 does this to save on CPU usage. No point in generating AI in California when you are flying over the Gulf Coast.

BTW, you should download the MS Traffic Toolbox SDK which has a couple of great AI tracking programs that come with it. Both of those programs will show you all the AI that are currently in the active ai area.

Thanks guys for the answers.
I fly a lot in the Southeast, so I will look forward to hearing the military aircraft that are part of the Southeast ANG package.
Also have the 1-130th Attack Helicopter Battalion stationed at RDU and the Cherry Point Harriers.

Great packages, and they will add a lot to my FS9 flights.
