Not trying to dismiss the original posters thoughts, but we shouldn't assume anything. They very well could have been Syrian helo's.....

DAMASCUS, Syria — U.S. military helicopters launched an extremely rare attack Sunday on Syrian territory close to the border with Iraq, killing eight people in a strike the government in Damascus condemned as “serious aggression.”

...A U.S. military official said the raid by special forces targeted the foreign fighter network that travels through Syria into Iraq...Syria's Foreign Ministry said it summoned the charges d'affaires of the United States and Iraq to protest against the strike

The countries bordering Iraq have had years to comply with requests to stop or help stop insurgents from entering the war zone. If they stall and/or do nothing then they risk this kind of action.
I have no doubt they knew that this could happen one day. Now they want to cry about it.
And still we don't know if this happened on Iraqi soil that Syria believes is theirs or the other way around.
