F111 Pig

Hello,

I was informally told that MAIW might have an F111 model available.

I have scanned the sight and haven't found it so I thought the next best thing was to ask.

These grand old fighter bombers are still in service with the RAAF, soon to be retired for the less capable Super Hornets in 2010. We in Australia have had a very long association with the F111, being a show stopper with its dump and burn routine. The only aircraft in the world that can light up its dumping fuel with afterburners. Incredible to see.
At last YAMB show, you could feel the intense heat as the F111 dumped along the runway and turned away from the crowd. At Brisbanes River Fire event, the F111's have light up the dark sky night with flames that could be seen more than 40 miles away.

There is no F-111 model available and I am not aware of one in development.

Thanks for that Dan.

I'll keep looking as my current model in the RAAFAI package was largely designed for 2002 and was derived from a salvaged bits and peices project and is a nightmere to repaint nicely.

I'm sure the U.S. have fond memories of the F111 as well and would go hand in hand with MAIW projects. Maybe one day Nick may find some interest in this aircraft and do it justice, being one of, if not the fastest, most agile long distance fighter bombers of all time. Having the bomb holding capacity of 50% of the B52 bomber. That's a lot of weight for its size. I'll be sorry to see them leave the aussie skies in 2010.

I did start on one a long time ago, but never got very far as the contact points in the FDE were driving me insane. It keeps falling to one side or the other, I dont think FS likes this kind of suspension.

For now, it's in stasis :(

Hey Dark,

That model looks really cool in the raw. Too good to leave shelved.

Perhaps listing the model on several of the source file forums will get a response from somebody who can assist with the issues that you have with it. Can I ask what program you used, ie: FSDS, Gmax, etc.

Image Here's an image of the RAAF doing a "dump and burn" that might re-fire your desire.

I had a squiz at my files, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I'd done more work on it than I'd thought. Once I find some spare time I might try and restart the project.

I think I need to accept defeat with the FDE though, and get someone else to look at it. They're not my forté at all, lol.

Hey Drew, that one would be a real bonus! I think there are ways around the "tipping" problems. Give Mike M (Mikewmac) a shout and see what he thinks. Seems like you can "fool" the aircraft into thinking it has a wider undercarriage or something like that.

BTW, glad to see you're still around the forums :D

Hi Mark,
I can't say the exact phase that its reached so far, but I can tell you that the basic modeling has been done, and the critical xml work and it has a working fde.
The last time I heard from Drew, a couple of weeks ago, he was progressing onto weapon fits including the Pave Tack pod.

There are/were still a few little obstacles to overcome but it is much closer to the end than the beginning.

The first models to be completed will be the C and G.

Actually I've not done much to it at all recently, just drips and drabs of texturing that didn't rate an update
Damn real-life stuff, always getting in the way
