Please test new version of the Propeller Replacer Tool

The purpose of the tool is to replace the propeller texture in FSX, where it shows as a solid disk.
I was no longer happy with the first version which replaced all textures with the same replacement after I realized that there are 24 different versions of the prop-hs.bmp file. If you have installed all MAIW packages, you have 778 occurrences of prop-hs.bmp in the aircraft folders plus 1 in the global texture folder.
I now read the CRC checksum and therefore know the correct file it must be replaced with.
The process is non-destructive. The original file will be renamed to prop-hs.owl. The program has the option to restore the original files.
If you are using version 1.0 of the tool, please:
- 1. use Version 1 of the tool to restore the original texture
2. run a file search over the aircraft folders and delete all prop-hs.owl files
Version 2 makes a proper job of cleaning up when you restore the original state.

You can download the tool
here.
I would very much appreciate some feedback before I release it officially.

Hi Martin,
I ran the programme as per your instructions, but when it got to the point where it asked me if I wanted to back-up and continue with the replacement it then comes up with;
"Run-time error '53':
File not found"
Sorry

Hi Carey,
That's why I like to have things tested before any release
I am not sure what happens, so let's make some things clear.
The tool checks on startup if the replacement textures are available in the same folder like the executable, otherwise it says 'NOK' in bold and red and refuses to even start a scan. If the textures are found, you can continue with a scan. Only when prop-hs.bmp files are discovered during the scan, the buttons to install or restore the textures are activated. So much for the theory, and at least on my system it is working accordingly.
Were the tool and textures in the same folder during your test? Did you maybe start the tool from within the ZIP file?
I can reproduce your error message only if I delete the texture replacement files after I have started the tool. This error is now I trapped.
Please re-download the
tool and try again.
Thanks a lot for testing the beast

I can confirm that everything worked as expected before the error, the scan was error free, the executable and replacement files were all in the same folder.
I'll download the new version and try again.

Error 53

Hey Martin,
I got the same error. I think, the error occurs, because i've changed the format of the textures (with image tool) to dxt3.

Same error with the replacement executable. Maybe it's because I have so many textures, it's finding every one in all of the folders (=2008 files to replace!).

Horst,
Thank you for joining in. No, that could not be the reason. If the tool finds a file named prop-hs.bmp, it checks the CRC code of the file. This can be done with every file, no matter what format.
The next thing the tool does is to see if it has a replacement texture for this specific file. If yes, the original texture will be renamed to prop-hs.owl and ... uuups
yes, this got to be the reason. My code for handling "3rd party" textures was buggy. I could reproduce your and Carey's error and it is now fixed. If the tool finds a texture which is not originally from MAIW, it will not touch it.
I made an additional button to copy the content of the listbox to the clipboard so that you can see which textures are FS9 and which are FSX.
Please re-download using the link above and test again, please.

Martin,
That worked! I'm just going to fire up FSX and see how it goes, give me a couple of hours and I can report back
Happy new year,
Cary

I am happy to hear this, Horst. After SP2/Accel. corrected the issue with untextured material there is close to none issue left with MAIW aircraft in FSX.
Ein gutes Neues Jahr auch dir und deiner Familie!
