Here's something I did 3 years ago, it's a bit old these days but I suppose you could update the textures for Mansfield and replace the C-141s with C-5s.

ProPilot23K :

I highly recommend the Ohio Air Project Mike has done . It loads up LCK , FFO , Mansfield , Springfield and others . It really makes these bases come alive and thanks Mike for putting this out . I was a member of the 121st for a short time at Rickenbacker then retired from the 445th at Wright Pat in 1995 .

It's a bit dated already, even though it's only 3 years old, lots of BRAC changes plus the C-141's are museum pieces now. I think the Springfield unit is on it's last legs and Mansfield is praying of a miracle also know as the Joint Cargo Aircraft.

Mike, tried sending you a PM but am I blind, or did they do a good job hiding the "Send" button?

Did somebody say C-141...LOL, That package will fill the area with lots of aircraft, I agree, a bit dated, but still, the 141 still fills my skys.

Since I'm fairly new to MSFS, or at least to adding AI and scenery mind if I bounce a couple questions here about adding this package?

Little confused on AFCAD's....namely what they are, the purpose, etc. The list included with the package, do I need to search and download the extra AFCAD's? But aren't those airport locations already included with MSFS - so why the need to add them?

Sorry about the elementary questions - thanks for the help though.

The default airports are just that default, if you install lets say the Ohio ai ,you prob wont see much if any package traffic at all, so yes, download and install the recommended AFCAD, what I did with ohio ai is found some scenery to give Wright Pat, some eye candy, I downloaded Gordon Perry's Wright Patterson AFB scenery , the AFCAD i am using (forgot were i got it)is not the one in the ohio ai package but it works good with his scenery, there is alot about AFCAD, the making of, airport diagrams, etc, and this place is probably the best place on the web to get help or to get pointed in the right direction,I have learned alot by observation and trial and error, but the end result is worth it if you decide to add some realism to your Military Ai Experiance. And words of advice always double check what download before putting into your Flightsim, Read Directions,go slow at it, and you will be amazed.

Hi Cornbread.
In its simplest terms an afcad file is a simple planview map of an airfield. The reason why additional ones are supplied or suggested is that they add detail to the default ones installed with FS.

What an afcad will contain that is useful for AI specifically is parking spaces and connections, or pathways, between the parking spaces and the runways.
If you have no parking spaces no aircraft will appear at the airfield, or if they land will disappear immediately. If there are no connections between the parking and the runways hen the aircraft cannot get between the two, so they just disappear and appear like magic.

The default afcads rarely have much in the way of parking spaces. An afcad file can contain much more info but the most important has been described here for AI purposes.

Thanks for the info!

Now the obvious follow-up question, is there a one-shop-fits-all site for downloading afcads or you just sorta search for them?

No real one stop shops, couple of sites that are somewhat dedicated to afcad only files but nothing that is all encompassing.

Thanks a bunch for the help. I have just about got it up and running.

A couple other questions - I also have installed the payware military AI from Just Flight Traffic PlusPak Military 1 and 2. I assume there shouldn't be a conflict with their AI and the packages I download here at maiw?

Their package also included nearly every afcad needed for Ohio AI (for instance I assume a file named AF2_KTOL.bgl is all I need) and since their package worked fine, I assume their afcads are capable of working with Ohio AI?

Sorry again for all the questions - and thanks again for the help.

The simple answer is that they shouldn't conflict as such, however you may find that traffic is duplicated. As an example if two install systems both add 40 aircraft on a base you will get 80 aircraft there.
They don't take into consideration MAIW packages, as we don't take theirs into consideration.

As for the afcads, its a slightly more problematic answer. An afcad carries a map of the airfield and includes parking spots. You can add codes to parking spots to ensure that AI aircraft park in a specific location or area, i.e. by sqn or type. Trouble is each designer/system uses their own particular system and so you may get aircraft parking differently according to each different afcad. So the afcad may work fine but the parking assignments maybe not be ideal. Not necessarily wrong, just not ideal.

You can alter the parking codes, but that is another topic/science to go into some other time :) .

Sorry to revive an old post but Mike, just wondering if this old Ohio AI package would work with FSX?

I recently converted all of my old packages to FSX and forgot about the Ohio AI. Would love to see some Ohio action.

Thanks.
