MAIW Afghanistan - What if....

Just thought I'd give you a flavour of the ai I have in Afghanistan.

It was prompted by my interest in an RAF repaint for the NBAI helicopters. I ended up using the original US paints (with additional .cfg entries for RAF/AAC callsigns) and modifying the MAIW Wattisham af2 file to support the army Apaches.

Long story short, inspired by tales from Tirithon, I turned my attention eastward:

First up is Kandahar (OAKN), with a small bit of Michael Carr decoration

Very nice. Where can I find those AFCADs?

Bagram is my own, Kabul and Kandahar are modifications I've made to other people's work.

Kabul was originally by Max Habighorst, who has done many good af2 files for Afghanistan - from Avsim.

Kandahar was originally by an MAIW mystery designer (probably Nick Black, although not explicitly credited as such) for the MAIW UK Harriers package. I modified it to be compatible with some military themed scenery bits from Michael Carr (I think) and to resemble the Googlemaps aerial photography more closely.

So, none of it is available as you see it here. My intention was just to inspire some thought on the possibilities available for an upcoming package, the existence of which has been heavily hinted at (hooray :D ). If anything does materialise, it will likely be much better than what I can offer, although I might share some of my stuff on Avsim as a temporary measure in the meantime while we wait for something more comprehensive.

Would you be interested in modifying my afcad in ADE9, and putting some in the right place for me?

Well,

Some of the aircraft are from MAIW flightplans, eg. the Harriers, Eagles, A-10s etc. Some of the C-130s may also be from MAIW. Other flightplans I have adapted from releases on Avsim (some by Ed Kooymans). Some of the An-12s are in WoAI releases. And the rest I wrote myself.

The helicopters use two "overlay" afcads at Kandahar, which I created myself. I think MAIW has a similar set-up for Kandahar in one of the releases for the AH-64, possibly the UK Apaches. But I could be wrong. I can't remember whether I incorporated the MAIW AH-64 plans into my own, or what. But I'm pretty sure the Chinook flightplans are solely by me. I have helicopter flightplans for these two models that cover the whole of Afghanistan!

Greetings all
I just returned from 6 months at Bagram Air Field. During that 6-months the airfield changed quite a bit. I am going to work up an updated AFCAD and I'll be more than happy to share it with you all when I am done.

Cheers

Scott

Since nothing seems to have turned up on MAIW for Afghanistan, would you mind posting your packages somewhere?

Greetings all,
I just returned from Bagram and I am currently working on a updated Bagram AFCAD. What you see on Google earth is way outdated. I'll be happy to share when I am done.

I think you'll find... You need to download the MAIW UK harriers package, and the various MAIW helicopter packages - one or two of these contain files for Afghanistan.

I'm afraid the screenies are just for your own inspiration: to get you motivated to create your own files.

Because most of my Afghanistan files were not created by me alone, I would have to try and track everyone else down and extract their permissions if I were to release some sort of package. I'm afraid I'm too busy for that.

However, don't despair: What I have done on my own system is not very "advanced", and with a little perseverance you'll be able to create much better results than I achieved. I suggest you start with using a program such as AFCAD, or even better, ADE9X. This will enable you to recreate the airfields as they appear on "Google Earth". Next, using the models from the MAIW packages, you can write flightplans to represent the current deployments.

Good luck!
