whenever I try to install either of these programs ,I get a message saying
"Run time error 339" component COMCTL32.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered:a file is missing or invalid.
I have triedredownloading both programs and tried to re-install with the same results.Can anyone help ?

Basically although you may have COMCTL32.OCX you have to register it for the system to know where it is. Its basically a registry entry that says 'if you want to use this library, look here for it'.
It has to be done through the shell, see here for more info on it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249873
