It's a limitation of FS9. I believe you can have different sounds in FSX though.

Can be done through a third party program - FSHotSFX

For AI sounds only you only need FSHotFSX.

Makes a lot of difference hearing the engines wind up on take-off and thrust reversers on landing.

You can even create custom sound packs for specific AI aircraft models so each sounds different.

I use Traffic View Board to sit back and relax and watch all of the various taffic I have assembled. I'm using FS9 and clearly, the sound system was designed to represent aircraft taxing on the ground only. So I changed the sound to represent spot view in flight. So for all you airport bums that hang out at the airport plane spotting, my sounds will feel more like your use to hearing. These sounds are for outside inflight only. They have mosty inside default sounds. Anybody that whould like to here my AI traffic sound sets tell me where to upload it where you cant can get it.

I'm a bit of a earhead and these things catch my attention.
Big Jet, Discovrety Wings F-111.

Hard Jet Sound Ferrysbab. Most MAIW fall under this groupe.

Single Prop C172 Microsoft.

Twin Prop, Aero Commader 500 series sounds that all you
SOCAL peaple would wakeup to in the 70's, I love that engine sound! Sounds like Sunday morning. : )

TurboProp
Not sure about the tuboprop groupe, but who ever recorded these turboprop sounds knows how they exactly sound. Veneaviones Groupe.

As and observer the real sound is ear cracking in person.
The Turbo Commander is harsh taxing by. You should have ear plugs.

Can't compair this to default AI sound.
