This breaks my heart.
What are the odds of somebody connecting out of all that space.
I'm sure alot have of you have experienced this. You here a engine in the sky, A plane is is flying directlly over your head. Why? Out of all that space in the air why do they have to fly precisiely over your head. Drop Blue Ice and all kind of stuff. I don't undertand.

It's called the odds. Someone's always going to be underneath an aircraft, at least in populated areas of the world.
Very sad, I had a great flight just today in a Grob 102. During the flight I looked down at the ground to my left side and saw the shadow of a 737 racing over the ground. Luckily he was quite a bit above me but it sure does get your attention. Gotta keep you head outside on a swivel, and sometimes, even that's not enough.
Sounds like it was a bad weekend for gliders in the UK.

I here you Mike on that one.
I've lived here in in Santa Monica for over 40 years. KSMO home of the DC3. I miss Douglas beging here. those where the days.
Anyway this is a very busy area to learn how to fly. We are sandwiched between KLAX and KVNY, the busisest GA airport in the US.
One day I was up in a Tomahawk, for a nice sight seening cruise. We got locked out of class D airspace because of too much taffic. It was only suppose to be a 15Min circuit flight, but it turned out to last 1 hour. We had stay out side of class D for a hour. They didn't charge me for it!

But it was scarry. Twins and P51's racing up and down the coast and they where close too. Whew! That was crazy day. If you where not paying attention to those guys we could have easyly met.
