Being that there is already an excellent freeware modern McChord AFB scenery available, I thought I would start work on a retro package for McChord (early '80s) for my sim. I grew up in the area and spent alot of time on base as a miltary brat so this will bring back some memories.

This is my first days work, all I really have to go on is a postcard photo since everyting on google is current. I used Instant Scenery, I have found the buildings in the libraries to be pretty close to what I want. Still have alot of work to do...tree's, parking lots, ramp lights, and I'm going to use grass texture to cover up that default satellite texture that FSX puts in. I am gong to put the C-130's and fighter aircaft in as wel.

Hope this will bring back memories for some.

Very cool!!!

I am about ready to put up some screenshots of my KHOP scenery as well, what program are you using for your screenshots?

Thanks,

Mat

No program, I just use the print screen function and paste it onto Microsoft paint.

It's nice to see those old C-141s. I remember when they started going away. This is one of the cool things about FS, You can live in whatever era of aviation you want if you have all the right downloads.

KG,

The C-141B Starlifter has been one of my favorite aircaft of all time. I spent alot of time at McChord watching them do touch and go's, definately a workhorse. Henry Tomkiewicz built a great model right before they retired, bummer to see it not get much use. Thats why I'm putting together this scenery package from the early 80's. Tough to find pictures though.

Very good point about the Henry Tomkiewicz models. There were also a few freeware and payware Starlizards that came around the same time they were retired as well. I had just started to build up my AI with non-AI 141s then Henry released his and a lot of re-paints were available as well.

In summer of 1991 I took part in the change of command ceremony for the 62nd Airlift Wing McChord AFB, and even before the first C-17 arrived they had both aircraft display models outside of the Headquarters building. Now I'm going to see if I can a C-141 that has been reworked for FSX.

Thanks

Havent tried it in FSX yet, but I did purchase the payware Alpha C-141, I believe its freeware now. Flew it alot in FS9, and I also downloaded Aaron Swindle's sound package and could not believe what a great model this is.

I am using instant scenery, very addicting program with all of the libraries. I have a ton of work still on this project but it is coming together. I wish Airport Design Editor had some better grass textures, I want to cover up the default FSX scenery tiles, land class is not quite right.

Some updated shots....I know its just basic scenery but its fun to go back...the scenery is coming together, just need some aligning of the AFCAD's. I have a MAC paint for Pascul's awesome C-5 but can't get it to work with the limo model.
