I used to go every year as a kid. That whole week was the highlight of the summer for me as we only lived about 10 miles away from the airport. Then in the early 90's the show really started to go downhill. I remember there were a couple years when they couldn't even get the Thunderbirds or Blue Angles. At some point they decided to make it the "United States Air and Trade Show" and thought it would be as big as Paris or Farnborough, LOL.......NOT. Last time I went was for the Centennial of Flight celebration in 2003, THAT was a good show, with the TBirds, Blue Angles and Snowbirds all in the same day!
Since then I've lost interest and from what my father has said, it has never been the same since it's hey days back in the late 80's when it was the largest airshow in the country.
EDIT: Looks like it's the USATS this year as well and it actually looks like a pretty good lineup for once. Hmmm.....now you've got my attention.
Aaron are you going to be busy taking pics the whole time are you actually going to just sit and watch the show on one of the days?
Makes for a long day but I can come down for the show and get home all in the same day, six hours of driving with a 10 hours of airshow in between.

If you saved me a seat, I'm not sure I could say no, LOL! I might want to bring along a couple friends as well. No fun making the drive by yourself. I wish my parents still lived in the area as I could crash there for the night, but no they just had to retire to Florida earlier this year.
Let me talk it over with the wife. I'd probably only be able to come down for the 18th.

Cool, the conversation will go something like this, "honey, I know you've been working your butt off lately to support my unemployed arse, as a show of thanks, I'd like to attend the Dayton airshow next weekend without you......"
You might be able to hear the screaming from all the way over in Illinois!

Maybe you would get closer with "Honey, with all the hard work you have been putting in around here lately, I have decided to reward you with a weekend away from me"

Aaron,
Is that a replica of a Val? I was at the Military Aviation Museum here in Virginia Beach this last weekend and they had a replica Val on display which was a converted BT-13 Vultee. It was one of the aircraft used in the movie Tora,Tora,Tora.
