Just wanted to say have you seen this phenomena in real life?

I was at point Magu Air show a long time ago and saw what your avatar is showing. A F4 was really cookin about 100ft over the runway.

They did a nose poke through steam like your avatar. They slipped over the sound barrier by accident. It Cracked every bodies ears.

Made your hair stand up. Unforgettable!

I watched an F18 do it twice last year at Scott AFB.

The safest one for high speed air displays was the Hawker Hunter. It was transonic not supersonic so it could go balls to the wall and not worry about bangs, but it was close enough as to make no difference. :D
I will never forget the doppler blue note effect and shockwave that was a staple of its displays.

Hi Jeff,

I did witness a GAF F-104 Starfighter do it about 100 years ago at RIAT....lol. I can remember all the car alarms for 2 square miles showing there appreciation to the pilot.

Was very cool

I saw the same at Dallas NAS in the 50's, when F8U-1's were just coming off the production line at Chance Vaught. He lit his AB before crossing over the lake to the east of the field, and went sonic about halfway down the field. Everyone was shocked! In those days, the ordinary person was not even a little bit aware of a sonic shock wave, much less having experienced one. It was a sensation that day - I'll never forget!

Ron, One of the early observers, This is the type of thing I'm talking about.

The people that where there.

Whould you like to tell the full story Sir?

We have lost the art of storytelling.

Let me See what you saw. Tell me?

I will try to give you something a little later... using my laptop can be a real pain as I have problems w/the pad always causing me to lose a posting before I'm finished typing. I'll write something up using note pad and then copy it over - be patient.

At RIAT the Spanish Hornet made a vapour cone around, got a rubbish photo. Last year also at RIAT the CF-188A demo made a vapour cone, albeit very light.

This year RIAT had lots and lots of vapour, the Rafale demonstrated this...
