Our country faces many tough choices in the years ahead. This is only one of many programs that will be halted. Money doesn't grow on trees even for the government (although sometimes they act like it does).

I cringe to think of our pilots flying 30+ year old F-15s and F-16s into the next decade.

I think we have plenty of F-22's. My concern is with the Tankers...We need a new one...NOW. The F-22 insanely expensive to maintain, and they do require a LOT of maintenance but it is also a very dangerous plane to be up against.

Oh for Christ sake! Just buy some frickin' Typhoons, I am sure that a license deal can be done. It has to be a good deal for the ANG at the very least.

Being of the US and serving in the USCG this is what some of us coasties have been saying, buy the Typhoon. Why not we have the CASA 235. Besides I like the Typhoon. :)

Be nice to see the Super Hornet in USAF!!!! yes the tanker should be priorty #1, Ive heard some pretty sad stories on the state of the KC-135 fleet, and as far as the F-35, you gotta be kidding me, as for the F-22, ask some of the guys in PACAF about the issues with the Raptor(Guam), of course its all about budget cuts..etc, sad .

What issues are there in Guam with F-22's? Biggest issues I know of are canopy & fuel door issues. Canopy's are being replaced.
The stuff the Washington Post put out about the 22 is pure garbage.

I concur with you that the Washington Post report is garbage, what I meant was cost, The F-22 is by far my fave aircraft currently in the USAF inventory. Sec of Def says..Leaky fuselage panels at the top of the jet are creating corrosion probs , also the planes core structure , the forward boom(supports the planes weight and also helps with the stress of high G maneuvers)...34 hours maintenance per single flight hour.(Im quoting Sec Gates) . As for me and my opinion,of course these issues do get resolved, but at a huge cost, it has to be done, all in all our main focus should be on the Tanker issue.

Agreed, no gas=no fly.

I can't help thinking that in these tough economic times you must be able to drive down the cost of aircraft as well so it would seem to be the ideal time to order a whole bunch of tankers at a very advantageous rate. However, you would have to act quickly.

Of course you could always waste time and money on a pointless competition which you will ignore the outcome of.

Nah, that would be too silly for words.
