Boise/Gowen Field

Both Boise's Gowen Field and Mountain Home AFB are top-five finalists from the 200 being considered as the new home the Air Force's new F-35. They aren't, however, competing with each other. Gowen would be use as a training and support facility so both could potentially win. As a Boise resident/military aviation photographer, this excites me.

I just discovered this forum so I thought I'd post a few of my shots from Gowen Field.

Great looking pics Josh. With pics of the airfield's buildings you never know if some custom scenery could come from that :)

Ha ha ha ... thanks! I love the way you think.

Actually, I don't publish or push my stuff on anyone else, mainly because I honestly don't know who to credit or how to credit them properly, but I've done a bit of custom work to Gowen in FSX myself. At least in terms of parking spots and appropriate military ai traffic on appropriate flight schedules. I've also sort of re-tooled road which surrounds the airport with a vehicle taxi path so I can drive around the airport and watch the same aircraft in FSX land and take off just like I do when I've photographing them in real life, ha ha. Nerdy, I know, but it was fun to do. I mostly just wanted to see how it compared to the real thing and actually, it's pretty darn close.

Oh Campbeme ... beautiful!! How did you get that 173rd building there? That is photorealistic, :) I've been looking for ways to improve KLMT's scenery.

I bet you're excited to get the 173rd F-15s for ai when they are released too. Right now, I have about 20 F-15 spots on my ramp in Gowen bgl with ai Mountain Home F-15s leaving from and returning to those spots but I'm eagerly awaiting the release the proper squadron.

Do you live in/belong to Oregon (ANG)?

I have I think two more, but the posted one is the best. I only recently focused any attention on getting pics of the Apaches. The other two were from much farther away, sorry.

J Gibson ... Saw you're stuff on Fence Check. Where'd ya move?

I've only been here since Jan and only photographing Gowen since about July.

So are you part of the Guard then or just an aviation photog?

LOL! :D The three C-130's you saw are MC-130P's in storage. there should be four of them. They parked one on the Army Ramp when the OR ANG F-15's where in town. Here's a photo (horrible photo - but show the aircraft). They've been at Boise for over a year now, just awaiting the USAF to return them to service (I believe they are waiting for slots at Hill for upgrades).

Image

The 189th "fini" flight was 04/01/2009
The last two 189th C-130H's (91-1651 & 91-1652) left Boise on 04/04/2009

---Where ID ANG C-130H's are today ---

88-1302 - rebuilt to MC-130W, 73 SOS
88-1303 - rebuilt to MC-130W, 73 SOS
90-1058 - rebuilt to MC-130W, 73 SOS
91-1651 - 180th AS, MO ANG
91-1652 - 180th AS, MO ANG
91-1653 - 187th AS, WY ANG

I hope this clears things up :D

(in the last photo 91-1653 is already in WY colors but at the time of the photo was still apart of the 189th As)

Hey Josh, my wife and I moved to Cape Cod, Mass. I work for Cape Air. I'm a wanna-be Fighter Pilot but do to my height (6'6) and vision I've "chosen" a Civil aviation career. My true passion is military so to get my fix I take photos and get my MAIW on. Hooraw is dead, and www.mach1images.com is in the works (i found that not to many people understood "hooraw" or could spell it...so i changed it). My family still lives in Boise, and my wife and I plan on returning some day (living here definitely makes me appreciate Boise), but I had to go East to get the job. How about you? do you fly?

How's the 402 treating you? That's real flying, operating by yourself in that thing. :smt038
