How about Shemya (Eareakson AFB-PASY)

Got started looking at Shemya as a result of the book, "Shadow Flights." It is about the US Recon efforts against the USSR during the Cold War. Although Shemya was not used widely then, immediately after the Cold War it became (and still is) a base for monitoring Soviet Missile testing and particularly the impacts on Kamchatka.

I checked both FS9 and FSX for scenery and based on what little information is openly available the runway and taxiway layout is pretty good. What it needs are three large hangars for the Cobra Ball aircraft (essentially EC-135s). It could also use the Cobra Dane Radar array, but I don't have a clue as to where that is located or what it looks like. There should be some admin and dormitory/mess hall facilities also.

Soviet Overflights ended with Gary Powers U-2C Shootdown, but some patrols/missions are still flown along the borders, much as the Soviets fly along the U.S. coasts. The U2s did a few missions out of Eilson AK but most were from European or Middle East locations. PASY would be a nice addition for those interested in Recon.

I had some friends stationed at Shemya in the late 80s. The had a tradition in which they would move a rock from the west end of the island to the east end with a goal of someday moving the place back to Anchorage. I have been doing some design work in Alaska (F-15 alert cells at King Salmon and Galina.) Ill take a crack at Shemya as well. I have been looking for a new project.

That's great. I did some browsing and came up with some decent sites:

http://rc135.com/ A great site on Shemya and RC-135 Operations. Tons of photos, videos and narrative.
http://www.met.utah.edu/cgi-bin/databas ... ASY&unit=0 Has a satellite map

http://www.airnav.com/airport/SYA **general data. There is no terraserver image, but there is one at Virtual earth (rt sidebar) also has one long distance oblique photo. No sectional chart but does have an airfield diagram with building locations.

http://www.truslow.com/Shemya/ Has some general photos and observations.

Avsim has a decent PASY scenery, includes the COBRA DANE array as well as admin buildings and roads. It was designed for fs2k2 but works well in fs9. The file is: shemya.zip
Good luck

I have been looking at this site for awhile I like to do outlying AB's and been thinking about doing this one, I checked AVSIM's site and the one mentioned is lost in space. so maybe now's the time to do it.

It may be gone from avsim but it's still on flightsim, under the same file name. Of course, a newer MAIW version would always be welcome!

I hope I didnt give the impression that if I do this scenery that it was going to be a MAIW package, (I'am not that good) but if somebody wanted it I would offer it.

Scott

I was going to do an current RC-135 package for MAIW, but the PAI model (even with Graham's Superb painting skills) just did not look right.
If you want the paints etc let me know...

Id love some Earekson scenery...BUT KOFF would be a better option IMHO...And if u do the scenery for KOFF I will do all the flightplans etc etc and we could release it (maybe as a MAIW package)
The E-4's are already done in the Andrews package...

I love the RC's, my favorite jet and would love to have a good KOFF scenery and a package

There is a FS2002 file on FLIGHTSIM.COM called pasy2k2 (shemya.zip on AVSIM is no longer available and is the same as pasy2k2), is a decent FS2004 AFCAD available for it?

As its too early for the RAF serials to be allocated, publicly anyway, then that sounds good.

I live near Offutt, It was my last Duty station at SAC HQ. I still have a few contacts out there and will see what I can dig up to verify the list.

Are these the RC's that were at KOFF that day he supplied the list?
Not a complete list..

Also are there any public domain pics of the inside back of a RC?
I am sure I read somewhere that there have been a few airshows in USA where u could walk through the front section..??

I don't know of any shots of the various Electronic stations. He wrote that list as we sat at dinner. I asked him for one in response to the one earlier posted here. If you have a more complete list. Feel free to post it.
