Combining Files

Does anyone know if there is any benefit to FS loading times with one or two large traffic files as opposed to many smaller traffic files? Also how about combining aircraft folders to speed things up? Ms FS takes about a half hour to load, and flights take sometimes 5 to 10 minutes. I recently did a Fs reinstall and would like to know the best course of action to get things back running a little quicker.

Thanks
Terry

I think all of this is anecdotal but I don't believe there is any speed benefit to having one large or several smaller flight files. FWIW, I have always used several smaller files as I find it easier to maintain.

I do believe that combining aircraft folders does help speed up load times. It can be a pain in the ass, though. Oh, before anyone asks, I have never found a limit to the number of aircraft you can have in one cfg file.

I guess where I really need to start is cleaning out some aircraft folders, I have an HTAI F16 that has 258 entries in the config. You guys have rendered a bunch of them useless over the past couple years  I have been altering my old flightplans as you folks have covered them, but never took the time to get rid of planes. I do agree that smaller files are easier to keep sorted, just never knew if it had any influance on load times.
Thank you sir

That is why it takes me so long to install a released package, the tidy up of old packages.

I have had combined files with almost 400 aircraft in them.
I have seen nothing that leads me to believe that combining files speeds up FS loading time.

I have since gone back to individual traffic files..which are much easier to maintain.

I was told that the advantage of a single traffic file is a slight acceleration in loading. Instead of loading hundred bgl files there is just one to load - even if this is a huge one. But as mentioned earlier: it is harder to maintain.

The cfg limitation was an ACA2005 thing IIRC.

Less a/c to load is always faster. You may combine the MAIW a/c folders. But again I think it is harder to maintain when MAIW releases updates

Although not recommended I usually add new civil repaints to WoAI a/c folders. When you are used to the installer data file you can even add the new custom traffic files there. This will make it very easy to get rid of an airline when it went bust. Use Expert Mode and Delete Airline  Also in Expert Mode it is easy to track the airlines you have currently installed.
