Love seeing those old Phantoms. When I first got to Miramar in 82, VF-154 and VF-21 still had their Phantoms, and they were about to go on their last cruise on the Coral Sea. Those birds were amazing to look at and watch fly. Although, I really didn't care for them taking my feet out from under me when they would taxi past an F-14 I would be working on in the engine cavity, causing me to fall to the ground. But, it was still an amazing plane to watch and look at :)

lol... Such a shame I always used to love reading stories about his flying days.
A sad ending, he was a crook at the end of the day!

Yeah, the old adage that power corrupts appears true here.

"Pappy" Boyington wrote, at the closing of his autobiography - "Show me a hero, and I'll show you a bum." I didn't understand that statement when I read it as a teen, but now, in sadder but wiser stage of life, I understand it to mean that no matter what we may achieve in life, we are all saddled with feet of clay (no one is absolutely perfect), and sooner or later we will make a mistake, or worse. One "ah shit wipes out a thousand atta boys". I was angry at Randy when he was proved to be 'human', but have now forgiven him, and hope that the remainder of his life goes well, and that he is able to overcome his mistakes and return to a position of favor. This kinda reminds me of when I was younger and I did a collection of MiG Killers using the Airfix F-4 and Modeldecal sheets.
