Question from a guy new to FSX and AI

Am new to FSX and AIs. Would like to read Big Picture info on how AIs work in general (I know they're controlled by the simulation and some designer inputs). There is so much detail on models, flight plans, scenery, etc it's hard to see the forest for the trees. No need for some one to write a long tutorial ... just point me to the material.

Near term question. I downloaded the Nellis AFB package. It's an executable file. Before I activate it what is supposed to happen? Also the download didn't include a readme file ... unless it appears when the .exe activates.

Are these AI packages really free? .... Looks like there's at lot of hard work being done on some one's spare time ... If it really is free I salute you folks!!

Thanks

Yes all of our packages are free, and are currently designed for FS9. However the guide that the links in the previous post point to will talk you through how to install a package into FSX and any special things that each package may require.

I would suggest downloading the guide and reading through it first to get comfortable with what the process is before trying it. It also might be worth trying the process out on a smaller package first, just my tip its not obligatory.

You are correct that the readme is installed as part of the process, however we have come to see that this may not be the most ideal situation so we have now started to zip up a copy with the installer itself so you can read it in advance. I think that Nellis was the last one not to have this function, sorry about that.

You may need help and people around here can answer general queries, package specific queries, and we have now quite a knowledgeable FSX user base to help you out.

Regarding the package readme files:

You can find them at "The Owl's Nest" here:

http://www.interkultur.de/gossmann/fsx/maiw.php

Just click on the package name in the "title" column on the left-hand side to get a pre-installation preview of the package readme. I think this page also contains a download link for the "Installation of MAIW packages in FSX" guide that was referred to above.

Thanks for the material recommendations. Looks like I have a weekend learning project. Wife will be disappointed that I blew off her honey do list ... maybe disappointed is not quite the right word.

See you all Monday ... hopefully. :smt021
