Tried to migrate an airport and AIs into FSX. Having some difficulty ...
1. I downloaded only Nellis AFB as a test case. Very nice scenery; very accurate ... even the golf course!!! Just like I remember Nellis.
2. Can't get the aircraft to appear. Followed the instructions ... very good by the way. Think I may have made a few mistakes because I'm a new guy.
3. Am running in DX10 ... don't know how to get back to DX9. Help!
4. When I register the folders in the FSX library, I can't make them line up in the order recommended which is Landclass, Excludes, Airports, Scenery. They want to line up alphabetically.
5. Am confused about the FS9.exe file that supposed to be in the virtual FS9 folder. Can you really make a file that's empty?
Thanks

Let me just give some answers while at work which might get you started.
5. -> yes you can

E.g. in the windows explorer, navigate to your target folder, then make a right-click in the file area, select new, select 'Text Document'. A new file is created which defaults to 'New Text Document.txt'. Rename the file into 'fs9.exe' and you are done. You must have enabled to see file extensions though to make that work.
4. -> while in the FSX library window you should see two button 'Move up' and 'Move down' (if memory serves me right, the naming might be slightly different). Selecting an entry you can move it higher or lower by pressing the respective button.
3. -> you can switch back to DX9 in the Graphics hardware settings (a check mark that needs to be deselected).
2. -> thank you. In the end you will get it to work.
1. -> would love to see it in real

5. Creating fs9.exe worked.
4. I'll check the library window when I get home but I don't remember seeing move up or move down buttons.
3. Which Graphics hardware setting box are you referring to? The one in FSX or a windows dialog box associated with my graphics card. There is no DX9 DX10 check box in my FSX graphics page.
2. You're welcome
1. Nellis was/is an amazing place during Red Flag. Huge number of aircraft. Difficult missions. All aircraws flying at max professionalism. I was at 7 different Red Flags. Would drop my golf clubs and go back in a heart beat!!

It is a setting in the same FSX dialog where you define the frames-per-sec limitation, the resolution and aliasing and filtering (found a German language picture only, right side first check mark).
As an alternative you can use a pretty clever tool called FlusiFix which (amongst many other things) allow to easily switch between the two DirectX modes. The page is a bit special - it will resize your browser window - and it is defaulting to German language. On the right site you will see a British flag - click it and the site will switch to English. FlusiFix comes in two versions for FS9 and FSX. If you AntiVirus is telling you the download contains a virus it is a false positive. One DLL that allows you to set the ground speed for AI aircraft has been ended up on the positive list of one AntiVirus company, and it has been impossible to get it off that list again. Just so that you don't worry.
The up down buttons should look like this:
Would love to see Red Flag

1. Am making progress ... resolved the scenery library problem ... found the correct dialog ...
2. Now see static aircraft on flight line but all the flightline buildings have disappeared ... they were there originally ... hmmm ...
3. When I select Nellis (KLSV), FSX labels it as Nellis AFB Ground AI routes ... I only see commercial/GA AIs flying.
4. Attached is a screen shot of my graphics window ... no DirectX 10 check box
thanks

Hmmm ... the graphics card is supposed to be DirectX10 capable ... I'll check it out.
Then I'll assume that FSX is running in DirectX9 which makes me compatible with the MAIW products.
Thanks again
Are you close to Oberammergau? I attended a NATO Electronic Warfare course there years ago. I remember the breakfast pasteries, bratwurst, knockwurst, sauerkraut and beer. Life was good!

I am living in the South as well, but in the west, close to the French border. Yep, the Algäu is a nice place, we have friends there.
