Area 51 (KGLK scenery) - expansion of AI

Though this isn't my project, I'm building some flight plans to expand the already present in the area.

To get the ORIGINAL scenery of Area 51 and AI traffic (Janet flights, patrol F-16's and B-52), visit:

http://www.simviation.com/fs2004scenery93.htm
(second from the bottom)

Its a 100 MB download, but is well worth it especially if you're looking for an upgrade to just a simple air strip you might already have out there in the Nevada desert. Anyone with particular requests for AI routes/traffic, let me know. Already I'm trying to interconnect the test site with Edwards and other air bases throughout the Western US (U2's, F-117's, Janet flights, etc)

...now if there was a way to set up a restricted air space, I wouldn't have those pesky Cessna's flying near it. :x

You might think about updating your Janet aircraft to the 737-600's that they are now operating, they retired the -200's.

I might want to think about that too. Thanks for the info :)

600's eh?, I saw the 200's last November, and a single 600 (short) taxied out when we were waiting at the main terminal. Happen to have a link to a 600 paint kit? I'll give that a shot.

Cancel that...got the paint kit. (http://www.flightsim.com/file.php)

Kurosaki,
I believe they are already repainted, never got around updating them until I saw a screenshot in the um..."Screenshot" thread.

Vic, thanks for that...I've located them. I suppose now its on to just flight plans and possibly a repaint of Andy Rosech's 737-600 to fly along with the Test site plans.

If I well remember the Janet 737-600 for the Aardvark model is available on Avsim...

already updated my old 200's to the 600's.

I've also created a paint of the freeware 737-600 (VC) by Andy Roesch in Janet scheme...should be up on Avsim soon. (there is one already as well for the PMDG 600 as well if you own that one.)

I found a flight schedule for the Janet fleet's 737s, and created flightplans for the entire fleet (B737, B1900, B200) using some of the data available from the various transponder tracking websites. They have some odd practices in how they submit and record their flightplans, which include filing flightplans to nearby civilian airfields (Beatty?) and then cancelling or replacing them. They also tend to use the same codes for different test facilities - or interchange them regularly. One has to work out what is really going on through a process of elimination, and trying to work out which recorded times are reliable and coherent. IIRC, observing the flight time was the only way of working out whether the flight was bound for Tonopah, or for Groom Lake.

My flightplans also send some of the aircraft not required for the regular schedules to further off test facilities (as per the flightplan data I found online), including Edwards (auxilliary field NE of main site), China Lake, Skunk Works etc. I even took care to set altitudes that would clear the various mountain ridges in the area! If anyone wants to use them or modify them for their own use, just ask.

Having been asked, I thought I may as well just put them here. I trust the mods will step in if it's inappropriate.

Don't forget, as has already been mentioned above, that they now operate 737-600s. Therefore, my 737 reg's will obviously not be correct.

The flightplans also include the movements of an unusual Gulfstream belonging to USAF Material Command that spotters have often seen operating in and out of Groom Lake and the surrounding ranges. Here's some photos:

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.s ... rch=N105TB

I don't know of a repaint (although one may exist), so I just used one of the generic paints from the Ultimate GA package. If you have that package, then you may want to use the following entry for aircraft no.12 in the "aircraft.txt" file:

AC#12,528,"UGA_HTAI Gulfstream3 Generic_7"

I'm pretty sure I picked it because of a similarity between this repaint and the actual aircraft.

Please use or modify the plans as you see fit. I made them over a year ago, so I don't claim they are current. They are only meant to be "representative", and they may have certain shortcomings that you will have to adjust to suit your own preferences.

By the way, I forgot to say that I used "KXTA" as the code for Groom Lake, because that is what a scenery I have uses.

You may need to replace "KXTA" with a different code if your set-up so requires. "9L2" is the Edwards auxilliary field NE of the main base and on the Northern edge of the dry lake. "TNX" is Tonopah Test Range Airport.

Love the package, but having 1 small problem.

Any idea why ACA2005 has an exception error when I check out these flightplans for KXTA or KGLK.

My guess would be that it doesn't know about one of the bases, if it is complaining about a set of plans.

I've added in to FSAirports.txt and Airports.txt the details for both KGLK and KXTA.

If I look at the flightplans it gives me all the right details, but if I try and look at a timetable for either
KGLK or KXTA I get the exclusion error. If I look at a time table for any of the ICAOs that are in the flightplan
other than these 2 it works OK.

Any ideas please

What version are you using? I am using the latest version 1.6.6 and I have no problem with either KXTA or KGLK. This despite KGLK not being in the flightplans nor have I got anything going there at all.

1.6.6 as well.

Well confused with this one!!

With my test, I compiled the plans exactly as I found them. Even though I don't have the aircraft set up.

Do you get the error diags option or does it just crash. Normally the JIT report will tell you where the problem is. It sounds to me like you may have some other issues at those two sites. I loaded the flightplans that I compiled and got no errors there, either.

Thanks for your time in this one.

Created a flightplan with only KLSV to KXTA and return. 1 aircraft. ONly those 2 ICAOs in the airports.txt.

If I ask for timetable for KLSV its OK, KXTA exception with as below

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

That definitely seems to say that it can't find that object. Which would either appear to be KXTA or something that your flightplan does. Now the only possibilities that I can think of with KXTA being the problem is that either you don't have an afcad for KXTA on your system or that the airports file somehow has got something corrupted.
If its a flightplan problem try using something like AIFP to verify it.

I would try one thing. Firstly compile the traffic file with the one that Tim provided, as it is, and remove your personal one and see if it still happens.

Thanks for that.

I've got an AFCAD for it, so I'll just have to keep persevering.
