The Reaper's Home

I got inspired by Mike's preview of the new Reaper and Predator model. So I decided to make General Atomics flight test fields in the California desert. So far I have just about finished Gray Butte Field, and am now working on El Mirage Field.

Mike,
Both Gray Butte, and El Mirage are about 15 miles west of Victorville, CA and are only about 5 miles apart from each other.

Near Edwards right?, That'd be a tight project..."California Flight Test Facilities."

Inspired by your pics, I flew out there to see what it looks like w/stock FS9.
Looks like you have made another "I want that for my FS."

Well here they are, a much imporved Grey Butte and El Mirage. Before I release this, is 12 a good parking radius for the RQ-1 and MQ-9?

Yes that will work. If you want the exact number, it is currently set to an 11M radius value. I think the MQ/RQ-1 will be slightly less than that, so 11 or 12 meters will work fine for both.

Looks like from this Google Earth image, they don't want any visitors out there....

Those are left over from when it was the McDonnell Douglas RCS test facility. If anyone has time, could they make one of those?

Mike, thanks for your help, unfortunately I have no idea how to handle a .mdl file. My current skill set is in library objects, I am sorry.

LOL! Here I'll make them into a simple library for you.

Well in that case, hang on I'll check them in game real quick to make sure they work correctly.

Here's the library for you. Place the texture file either in the local or global (FS9/Texture) texture folder.

Matt would you mind sharing your SBuilder file for the AB? I would like to use it to assign one of my own custom desert textures for use with my setup if you don't mind.

I'm pretty sure they assemble them right there at the larger of those two fields. Not sure where the actual carbon fiber body assemblies and all the other stuff come from though.

Joe, those look really good. The best information I can find, is that all of the final assembly and initial flight test occur at Grey Butte, and then is carried over to El Mirage. Although some assembly has been done in the past at El Mirage, so who knows. I think it may just be whereever the is room to build them.
