The last known survivor from the real life "Great Escape" Jack Harrison has died today aged 97.
He was one of the gardeners who helped hide the soil from the three tunnels.

Number 98 on the list he never got to escape Stalag Luft III (Poland), the attempt being discovered after 76 prisoners had got out.

Out of the 76 -
3 - Made it to freedom.
23 - Were captured and returned
50 - Were shot on direct orders from Adolf Hitler

Still one of my favourite wartime movies.

RIP.

The movie was one of my favorites as well. It broke my heart that so few actually made it all the way. Of course, they still managed to cause resources to be tied up hunting them down, so therefore a great benefit to the allied war effort, so that can be a measure of success. Great props to all of them. They should be remembered. They were real hero's.
