Thanks for this latest package. The skies are getting more and more crowded. :D

I did have a problem getting a word in edgewise while attempting to talk to ground control after landing. And then I realised that some of the radio chatter was from ground control at Colmar. But that is over 50 miles away to the east. Might be a conflict with the earlier French Mirage F1 package?

Noticed there wasn't a control tower or fire station as in some of the previous packages.

Otherwise, enjoying this new package very much.

Yep. As well as the ROCAF. I always visit each after installing one of these new MAIW Mirage packages to make sure everyone is still playing nice with each other. So far so good. I'm really glad they released the first package for Dijon and Al Dhafra to inspire you to make the flight plans.

Some users of this package may experience a lack of texture on 2 large green hangers at St-Sauveur. This is due to an u compiled texture making its way into the package. If this is the case, please simply extract the attached zipped file to a location of your choice, and then ensure it finds its way to your "Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\MAIW French AB Scenery\Texture" folder and replace the existing file.

Many apologies.

Nick

I mentioned it up above but was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the conflicting ATC tower calls between this scenery of Luxeuil/St Sauveur (LFSX) and the scenery for Colmar/Meyenheim (LFSC) from the MAIW French Mirage F1 package? Did your beta testers test for this? It seems like an obvious test to me but then I do QA for a living. At times it is to the point where you can barely get a reply transmission in at all.

I checked my real world charts and the problem is that both have a primary Tower frequency of 122.100 MHz. Apparently FS doesn't take into consideration the strength of the signal because in real life they surely don't have this problem since they are somewhat close together.

The saving part is that the runways at Meyenheim and St Sauveur are numbered differently. Otherwise it would be totally crazy.

Both have alternate Tower frequencies: 250.275 MHz for St Sauveur and 372.800 MHz for Meyenheim. Anyone know how to make that available in FS?

The packs are tested against a default FS9 setup, nothing else. This issue will not arise for a user who only installs this package and nothing else. Therefore, this package passed its beta testing criteria.

As you are aware - those are the default frequencies in FS2004 and FSX.

The other frequency range is not available in FS.

The best alternative is to choose a different frequency in the FS range for one of the towers. It may take some experimentation to come up with a frequency which does not interfere with something else in the area.

It's the AFD creator's choice between realism and functionality.

In fact 250.275 MHz and 372.800 MHz are the primary frequencies for those bases as military aircraft (at least here in Europe) always operate on UHF for ATC.

122.1 is the common tower frequency, 122.5 is the common approach frequency. They are available at all military bases in case a civilian aircraft wants to call (e.g. for crossing clearance). And yes, very often you will hear calls for another base on your 122.1 in real life. Happens a lot here in Belgium where aerodromes are very close to each other.

I never use 122.1 in my AFD's to avoid the cacophony, but then you need to make up a random VHF frequency because FS9/X don't support UHF. Dev's choice.

Well, I guess that's part of what we have to deal with when flying military in a civilian sim.

Would I use AFCAD to make a fix on my local copy? I messed around with it long ago but don't recall what all it can do.

Mike, might I suggest that going forward any/all previously released MAIW packages for the given country a new package is being tested for be installed as a part of testing. I can see not worrying about other developers work but surely inhouse packages should be always be tested against? The French skies are going to be even more busy in the coming months. :D

That's a good suggestion but just not practical for us. The United States alone has 116 packages already and that number is growing almost every month.

I'm pretty sure that every single one of our testers would quit on the spot if we told them they had to have all the given packages for a given country installed before they began their testing.

Yeah that's just not practical. Would you find yourself making changes to multiple packages? Each stands on its own and that's the best we can do.
