Hi,
Having problems with hawks pt 1 and 2.
All files and folders are where they should be.
Traffic converted to fsx.
AI traffic at 100,ground shadows off.
MAIW aircraft not showing, all I get is a Tornado at the refuel point.
Funny thing is the NATO sentry pack works perfectly.
Am also having this prob. with other packs.
Would be grateful for any help.
Regards, sterio

Have you read the FSX guide? Not to be snarky but we get this post about once every two weeks. I do hope someone can help you, though. Welcome to the forums.

Which airport - and are you sure that an AFCD with extra parking is located in an active scenery folder?

That description really sounds like a default FSX military airport with only one parking spot.

Hi Reg.
Thanks for the reply.
For hawks pt1 I am using Valley located in
fsx airport list.
Looking at the MAIW pack the only scenery file is
maiw af2 egov default gl.bgl and this is in
my addon scenery/scenery folder.
Perhaps you could point me to the afcad
with extra parking.
Regards Sterio.

There are 75 parking spots in the AFCAD file you mentioned.

The default FSX scenery object for the refuel station will appear on the airport if the MAIW AFCAD is used, but there will not be Fuel parking spot as a choice in the Go To Airport screen. There are three parking spots near that scenery object - all 8.0M in size and with parking code 208R. You should see four taxiway lines for the three parking spots and the aircraft entrance near that scenery object. Do you see those?

When you select the airport from the Go To Airport screen do you get a list of a lot of parking spots where you can place the aircraft you are flying?

Hi Reg.
Thanks once again.
I've just opened fsx and selected go to airport Valley AB.
In the choose r/way box I have
Active r/way
1
1(helipad)
14
19
26
32
8
parking 1----fuel box
I also have some odd looking trees at the end of the active r/way.
Should I delete the MAIW afcad?
In deperation I also d/loaded from ianpsdarkcorner.co.uk
an RAF Valley ADF file which supposed to give a lot more parking spots.
This is in my addon scenery/scenery folder. Alas no luck,
everything is still the same.
It seems to me that fsx keeps defaulting to the inbuilt Valley.
As i say in my original letter all files and folders for hawks pt 1 are where they should be.
I am also getting the same prob. with Beal AB.
I'm sure it must be something simple that i'm doing wrong.
Regards, Sterio

Your MAIW AFCAD for EGOV is not in an active scenery folder. If it was, you would see many additional parking choices on the airport. Check your scenery library and make sure the Addon Scenery folder is active.

Do you see parking markings like the group near the Rwy 26 end?

I don't see any thing with the default FSX airport, or with the MAIW AFCAD active. The only issue that I have is that Rwy 08/26 if 5289 ft long in the MAIW AFCAD and 4191 ft long in the default airport. I have Ultimate Terrain Europe - so the MAIW AFCAD file puts the end of the runway out over the ocean.

When I measure that runway in Google Earth (image date Mar 5, 2006) - it comes out as 4,199 feet long from the ends of the displaced thresholds - 3096 feet from threshold marking to threshold marking - which closely matches the FSX default runway.

The MAIW AFCAD measures 4190 feet between the threshold markings. THAT MATCHES the default FS2004 AFCAD for that airport. The AFCAD designer did not make any change to the runway, only that the FSX database is updated with what is likely more correct information.

Try this file for EGOV - it was made from the default FSX EGOV and copies the parking of the MAIW FS2004 airport.

Hi Reg,
We are getting somewhere.
Installed your file and am getting exactley what you show in your picts.
loads of parking lots, but still no aircraft.
I made a folder in sim objects called MAIW and loaded all the package a/c into it
I added a new line in the fsx config. main pointing to it, this was done when I first started
installing maiw. So the a/c should show.
Is there any thing else I can do?
Thanks once again for your time.
Regards, Sterio.

Hi Reg.
Think i might have cracked it.
Out of desperation I reinstalled hawks pt 1, over writing all the existing files.
I deleted the traffic file which was converted to fsx, and replaced it with the pack file.
Hey presto loads of hawks!
Would it be these files which are causing the prob?
Regards, Sterio.

The only issue I've had with the Hawks, and some other packages, is occasionally the 'duplicate names' warning. The first 25 characters of the title of the 19 Sqdn and the first 26 characters of the 208 Sqdn aircraft are identical for each squadrons T1A and T1W repaints.

It appears to me that the FSX warning is triggered when the more than the first 24 characters are identical. But that does not impact the actual flight plans/ how the aircraft are used in the sim.

I do not normally convert FS9 traffic files to FSX, but rather compile the source .txt files as a FSX traffic_xxx.bgl with AI Flight Planner - so adjusting the aircraft titles is an easy fix.

Hi Reg,
Think i've found the prob.(which you first stated)
All the airfields that show MAIW aircraft have multiple parking bays ie your valley file.
I reinstalled hawks pt 2 which has Boscombe Down and Leeming airfields.
Both these have only one parking spot hence no a/c show.
Question is how do I get multi parking to show on these fields or any other?
Regards, Sterio.

Those sound like default airfields to me. The MAIW Leeming and Boscombdown afcads all have the correct amount of parking for the package requirements.

You may well have everything in the correct place. On the other hand, can you be so certain?
sterio wrote:I'm sure it must be something simple that i'm doing wrong.
All I know is that you cannot simply run the auto-installer if you are running FSX. You need to move everything into the correct place manually for FSX, as the installer is designed for use with FS9. Beyond that I'm afraid I don't have much help to offer.

Sorry :(

If you were able to place my modified EGOV file and it works - that is the folder you have to make sure also holds the MAIW AFCAD files. In most cases the MAIW AFCAD file will work acceptably in FSX. I probably have 50 of them which I have not yet rebuilt with ADE for FSX.

For FSX - I always run the installer to create a new folder for the package outside of FSX.

Then - I will manually copy the aircraft, effects, textures and AFCAD files as necessary to my FSX setup. I also take the source text files and compile the traffic files for FSX. In some cases I have to decompile the Traffic_MAIW_xxx.bgl files to get the text file.

MAIW sceneries require some extra experience and work to use - but many of those can be used in FSX.

Just for reference - I keep a full extracted copy of every MAIW package completely default on my NAS device. (And Project AI package, and WoAI package and UGA package and MYTrafficX, TrafficX and Ultimate Traffic2 along with the FS2004 versions of the payware). That way when I work with a question like yours - I can be sure I have a completely unmodified source.

Hi Reg,
Noted your comments,
most of my installs now working ok.
But tell me this I installed Lemore NAS same as the others,
all a/c showing but I've a load of shrubs growing out of
the parking lot and runways.
In the pack there is a addon scenery/scenery folder
should I put the contents in the fsx addon scenery/scenery folder?

FS2004 and FSX use different types of files to exclude things like the autogen shrubs/ trees.

If the MAIW scenery and airport, extends past the default FSX airport background polygon - someone has to make a FSX CVX file to exclude those objects and flatten the area properly. I haven't really looked at that airport yet.
