I have moved the texture file for an aircraft repaint into the aircraft I want ok, but when I cut and paste the texture part into the aircraft cfg and try and save, it indicates access denied (Windows 7). Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe the aircraft.cfg file is read only?

does it say you dont have admin rights ?

It says access to Program files/fsx/aircraft.cfg denied.
It is a possibility that I don`t have admin rights set up properly? I dont know how to do this if that is the case.

Right click > Run as Adminstrator :-)

I just checked, & it looks like I am already logged in as an administrator, but I am still getting the access denied message.

Have you tried just typing in the text as oppose to cut and paste?

you have to turn off your admin rights ? sounds strange i know but its your own windows security setting, when its off all will be fine, you will find it if i remember correctly under-control panel/user account/turn user account control on or off. try that

I tried what you said, but where I would change the access rights in the administrator account, it was set so I could not change anything (unhighlighted, but all the boxes were ticked to give access). I enabled the guest account to see if logging on to that would make a difference, but it still would not allow me access?

David,

I had the same problem. The solution I used to overcome it was to right click on my Flight Simulator 9 folder to open its properties window, click on the Security tab, click the edit button, click on my name, click on all the appropriate boxes under Allow in the permissions window, click on Apply and then on OK. This gave me permission to make any changes to files in FS9 that I needed to.

Thanks Mike

I did pretty much what you said but with FSX, and hey presto it is working.

Dave,

Oops! I forgot that you were using FSX, but it still should and apparently did work for you. :D

Windows 7's security features can often get in the way, but there is usually a fairly straight forward solution.

Resurrecting this thread if thats OK:

I was editing a helicopter texture in FSRepaint, I've done this lots of times but on this particular one I edited one of the files in the texture folder but when I came to save it I got the error message saying the file was ReadOnly and could not be saved.
After numerous searches online it seems there is a bug in Windows 7 that says the file is read only when sometimes it isn't.

Any going on from there after numerous times of trying to alter the permissions and unchecking the read only box still no joy, the file still says Read Only.

I searched on here and found Mike's post above and tried the Attribute thing in FS9, it did a scroll bar thing and at first I thought I had cracked it. but still no joy.

Now before I go on any further, the texture I was editing is not that important and I can easily sack the heli and do without it, but it got me like a dog with a bone I wanted to sort out the problem.

Also with the heli there is other textures and I can edit those no problem and they too say they are read only but as I said before it is the Windows 7 bug that shows them like that.

So after all that waffle, has anybody else come across this and if so did you manage a way round it or did you give up lol?

This was the heli by the way but I also have it in another folder with other textures, I tried both by the way:

Have you tried copying it. Sometimes this can be that simple, or loading it up in a paint package and saving as.

Hi Steve,

I tried your suggestion but again no joy as yet mate.

It isn't a big deal like I said I got that intent on trying it ended up I was a few hours messing about with it so in the end it made me more determined to sort it out.
I'm not going to upload it anywhere if I do manage to edit the texture, all it is I'm editing the markings on it as I don't fly in that area and by doing so it will look more natural without them where I do fly.
I've done this with a few aircraft, I've seen aircraft from far off lands that I will never fly in but have great textures and all it needs is a bit of editing then I can use them in my area, like i say they are on my PC, very fictional but I like them.
