Cleaning out traffic bgl files

I noticed that some of the traffic files I've installed seem to be far bigger than others.
On decompiling I discovered that some of them use the complete airports.txt as a template, consequently they are making the files much bigger than necessary.

Is there a way to automatically get rid of the unused airports in this file, as going manually through each traffic file to get rid of these unused airports would definitely do my head in.

Many thanks in advance.

Jim

AITMv2 is what I use to strip out unused airports from the airports txt file.

You'll still need to use TTools to decompile your largest flightplan bgls into txt files. Then you load the flightplan into AITM, go to the "Tools" menu and click on "Create Airport file from Flightplan", before saving. Now recompile your text files in TTools :D

It's still a bit of a process, but at least it makes it easier...

EDIT:

Give Stew's recommendation a go first, it looks a bit more straightforward (I'll have to check it out myself)

Jim,

Pop onto the tools page and download "genair"

http://www.militaryaiworks.com/tools.html

Run that and select the flightplans you're working on. It'll generate only the airports needed which you can save/overwrite the existing airports file.

Is there any advantage in cleaning out the unused airports other than a smaller file size - performance, load times?

As far as I know there is no tool to determine this definitely. Logic, however, would seem to say that a smaller bgl would load quicker. It may not be obvious on its own, but if you have 10-20 like this my guess you would notice it.

I once went through all my bgls looking at size and recompiled using cut down bgls. I believe that it cut minutes off my load time, but I have not scientific proof of this.
