I'm curious, did you use the recorder module to create the shot?

Are you using fsrecorder? 'cause I think this is impossible for pure AI

I used FSRecorder and "flew" the AI model to record the track.
My first try was using the IRIS Goshawk to record the track and simply switching the aircraft models during replay, but the wings of the AI F-4s did not unfold and the pilots did not show up. I had forgotten to switch on the lights which trigger the pilot figures and the wingfold of this particular AI model.

Did you use the offset feature or did you record all six aircraft as separate recordings?

I used the offset feature.

How well does that work? I've heard that it isn't that stable, lots of jerkiness with the aircraft positions?? Sure works well for still shots though.

I did not notice any jerkiness. The whole formation acted like welded rigidly. The track I recorded was straight on with only slight banks. I will try some more maneuvers and see what happens. Where is the smoke switch...

I replaced the AI model in the slot position with the Alphasim F-4 and used the advanced play option of FSrecorder to get into the cockpit.

This is the beauty of FSRecorder. Simply amazing shots!

In the decompiled track file, look for

#Aircraft: "AI_F-4J_Phantom_Bue_Angel_No4_f4b-model" to put the Blue Angel No4 AI Phantom in the slot position.

It's a little bit dated, but gives you a pretty good idea how things works.

For those of you who have not experimented with the Recorder module yet, the beautiful bit is that you can omit any one of the recorded aircraft tracks and substitute yourself and your own aircraft into that position to practice flying with the rest of the formation. Good stuff.
