Hi gents, can somebody tell me what the Tornado GR4 package sounds are meant to be like.....sitting next to the runway whilst these take off, they sound like the default 737 etc, (basically a hair dryer

). are they meant to sound like the real thing.. (knocking my speakers off the wall

) afterburner and all that.. or do I have a problem?..............sorry, forgot to mention I run FSX

In FS2004, there is only a limited number of sound options for AI aircraft. That's why your Tornadoes sound like the 737's. The AI aircraft will use this sound from start-up until shut-down, so you won't hear them increasing throttle on the runway or anything.
The options are lgjet, singleprop, smjet and twinturbo. Which one the AI aircraft uses is hard coded into the model.

You can always replace the current sounds with some enhanced ones.
For example;

Changing the default sounds is your best bet. But it's always a tradeoff. My AI fighters sound alright but then my AI airlines now sound like fighters.
They fixed this in FSX apparently where you can assign individual sounds to individual AI models.

Welcome steveyb,
I notice that you modded your post to say that you use FSX.
In short, as Mike says, fsx users can alter the sounds of their AI. FS9 users can't, we build for FS9. If you want advice for the best effect to enhance your enjoyment in FSX, I would suggest that you post a question in the FSX forum to see what FSX users have done .
