MAIW HTAI F-16 Family Conversion Support

Post support related comments for the MAIW HTAI F-16 Family Conversion package in this thread.

Attached is a hotfix for the F-16 conversion pack V1.1 for P3D users. There was a typo in the lights sections of some of the aircraft.cfg files, referring to the effect "fx_HTAI_F16_ab_P3Dv4" while the actual name of the effect is "fx_HTAI_F16_ab_P3D". You can either update your lights sections yourself, or use the attached aircraft.cfg files.

The zip in the hangar is updated and I removed the obsolete air files from it as well. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry guys.

I have to fall on my sword for the afterburner typo in the original release. In testing I found that my new afterburner effect file worked in P3D v2.5 and 3.4 as well as v4, so I dropped the v4 from the fx_HTAI_F16_ab_P3Dv4.fx effect file name, but neglected to make that name change in all the aircraft.cfg files.

Hi all !!
The F16 package is awesome and it works at the best !!
I've used the converted models to match some exotic units like the F16 of NSAWC , the ones of Norvegian RNAF and others without any problems.
But i was not able to have a good result with the F16 of RNLAF .
after downloading the liveries from here: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads ... am-and-bm/ (RNLAF F-16AM & BM AI package by René Spaan, Models by Henry Tomkiewicz, base textures by Graham King For use with Microsoft FSX.)
, and having them converted to dds, I have combined them with the respective updated models for p3d v4, but once the sim is loaded, the aircraft are presented without canopy and without landing gear.
Where am I wrong?

That looks like you have missed updating one of the models to the new version - what you are seeing is classic FS9 model in P3D.

I've put the textures in the belgian F16 folder wich works flawless, added the relatives line in the Aircraft cfg. and run the sim.
The belgian F16 works perfect the RNLAF still at the same with no landing gear and canopy.....
I'm getting crazy !!
Any ideas ?!!

Are the Belgian and the Dutch F-16s in the same folder?

Yes , same folder !
I've simply added (just for testing) the Dutch textures updating the aircraft cfg sharing the same models and .air file
The belgian works and the dutch no !!

Can you made a tryouts downloading the textures and performing a trial ?

Well checking my screenshots folder i've found this :

the screen is dated 01/05/2018 and the Dutch F16 is perfect
At that time the F16 files comes from the F16 conversion Beta2
After the upgrade with the definitive release actually in the download section the Dutch planes loose theyr gears and canopies.
I don't know where's the problem but it seems that something in the definitive package is bugged..at least for me.
Any helps appreciated mates !!

It's hard to diagnose the issue without looking directly at your system, but I can confirm there's no issue with the models in the package. And as Gavin pointed out, it's clearly an issue with the models in your system, not the textures.

Both screenshots show the air model. Can you confirm that you have the following two files in the "MAIW HTAI Lockheed Martin F-16C Drag Chute (FSX)\model.air\" folder:
  • AI Lockheed F-16C Drag Chute Air fsx.mdl
  • model.cfg
and the model.cfg contains a reference to the correct model:

Code: Select all

[models]
normal=AI Lockheed F-16C Drag Chute Air fsx
Did you try changing the model in the fltsim section of the aircraft.cfg to e.g. the normal model to see if it has the same issues?

Finally I found the problem !!
After doing all the checks that were suggested to me, but without success, I started checking all the scenarios related to military airports in the Netherlands. I found out that the NL2000 auto-installer program, used a week ago, for the Volkel air base upgraded to P3D v4.2,, has still installed in the airplanes folder, a version of the HTAI F16 for fsx .... And for some reason the sim was going to load that version instead of the updated version of MAIW. I thank everyone for their help and I apologize for having misplaced the post with a problem not connected to the MAIW package.
Lesson learned !!

Researching this issue before posting, I am running v1.1 Vipers in P3Dv4.2. The F-16C "air" closed canopy would not display normally in AI view (long draw distance) and the model would just continue to taxi around the ADE, all other AI went to parking. Displays fine in Martin's AI Editor and LODs look correct. Switched model to "air" (open canopy) and all is fine.

I have no idea what is happening. Does it happen if you use that repaint with a different model?

all the other models are not like this one, they do not have transparency.
I think it comes more from the model than from the repaint

Fab,
I just double checked the drag chute clean model and am seeing the same thing you are in P3D. No idea why - stay tuned.

Ok,
I figured out what has happened.
I accidentally assigned the beacon light visibility condition to the interior of the engine instead of the pilot body (no idea how).

Had to completely re-convert the Drag chute clean models but here are the repaired models. Just drop the model files into the appropriate folders over writing the existing models.

Glad it worked.

Greg - could you update the package on the server and Matrix when you have 5 minutes?

Thanks
Gavin

Already done in Matrix and will be pushed with the next region updates.

For the standalone package, normally Martin takes care of those but he doesn't seem to be around much lately. I'll see what I can do.
