I bet it'll take at least a week to remove the smell of sh*t from inside the CRJ.

So who takes the blame in that? Ground ATC? The A380?, the crew moving the CRJ forward <not fast enough>?

Or the standard Canadian ATC joke going back many yearsKurosaki wrote:So who takes the blame in that? Ground ATC? The A380?, the crew moving the CRJ forward <not fast enough>?
"It's the fault of Airbus "
One thing is for sure ,the JFK controller felt like sh#t even if no lives lost or injuries .Even if he knew he'd done everything right and by the book, a sneaky feeling ran through his mind "Did I f#ck up " He'd been removed from the position pending an enquiry ,further making him feel like Sh#t . Part of the initial enquiry into this incident would be listening to the frequency tapes which would have been immediately secured .Here in Canada the person listening to the tapes WILL listen to it with the involved controller present . Once it becomes evident that ATC HAS done it's job correctly the sighs of relief are very audible and he would have gone back up to the tower cab and pronounced " I'm good ". The person doing the enquiry will be stuck in an office until all has been documented and processed .
JFK is a real bitch to work at .Horribly busy ,antique airport layout ,antique tower equip't . Last time I visited their ASDE(Airport Surface Detection Equipment) was a POS . Fantastic group of people with great pride in what they do .Constantly at odds with FAA management

One thing that DOES stand out in the audio ,the crappy Air France phraseology for which they are very well known for !!

Just checked to make sure JFK has the ASDE-X surveillance system, weather it was working or not or that AF Super had his xponder on is another issue.

Listening to the audio, did anyone else get the impression that I got?
That there was a definite confusion between the Gnd Control and the Air France pilot.

JFK got a waiver in order to operate A380's. Without that waiver, the taxiway widths are not approved for A380 ops. They might have been a little quick on issuing that waiver.

Stew ,there's always confusion between ATC and Air FranceStewart Pearson wrote:Listening to the audio, did anyone else get the impression that I got?

I ue used to swear that they'd have a huge phraseoloy book on board that they'd consult to see which term they'd use for that flight !
I did ,however , pick up 2 voices on Gnd . probably a controller in training and his instructor who appeared to take over for a few transmissions
AF most definately had his transponder on . ASDE to make it work properly has to have filters etc. to make it work properly due to the MANY echoes bouncing off buildings taxiing A/C and, believe it or not nearby, highway traffic. taxiing A/C such as an A380 on a the parallel to will ghost onto the rny for about 600 ft. for a period of time . ASDE Has been known to pick up a fast F150 truck stopping suddenly at the hold short line and the radar thoughfully anticipating that the truck MUST be still moving and has proceeded onto the rny.Victory103 wrote:Just checked to make sure JFK has the ASDE-X surveillance system, weather it was working or not or that AF Super had his xponder on is another issue.
The ASDE that Sensis (sic?) provided to Kennedy is a good system but JFK (info is 2 yrs olde) needed at least another ASDE site and a whole bunch of MLAT (sort of a repeater) towers around the airport .
Re: Air France A380 takes out a CRJ-700 on the ground @ JFK
Check the right wing of COM .It's right over the initial hold short 3 crossbar lights on the Mike taxiway He's no way clear of the Alpha taxi which AF is cruising along .
Re: Air France A380 takes out a CRJ-700 on the ground @ JFK
Pretty standard for the rampers to not be ready when you pull in. Most airline's company policy is to hold short of the gate area until the marshallers arrive to guide you into the gate.
