Back in 1990 2 Mig29's visited Ottawa for the Ottawa Airshow
Early saturday AM 2 USSR Airforce techs started to open up the nose cone to reveal the innards ( Radar!!) 7 or 8 of us ( + one USAF guy and a CAF photographer stood there with baited breath and in my case a fresh roll of 24 ASA Kodachrome to shoot the insides . This was going to it ,one of the major coups of the Cold War !!! Mig 29's radar revealed to the West and we were there to record history !!The techs had huge smiles as they removed the nose cone to reveal a concrete block as ballast that had replaced the Mig's radar for the flight !! We quickly joined in the laughter .
Bob Wade CAF's very talented (IMHO the best ) CF18 show pilot flew the dual Mig later that yr .

Thanks for the link - some great pics in there, but some of the captions are quite funny, and I love the real "hole in the wall" Who'd have thought, even 25 years ago, you would see stuff like this outside of the recognition journals that weren't available to the general public? And most likely black and white, grainy photos taken on poor quality film......glasnost indeed
