raflossie has no buildings!

Post by JHWB »

Hi! This is my first post here. I was referred by the folks at FlightSim.com as my problem relates to the scenery RAF Air Base at Lossiemouth which was designed bu DaleRFU.

I downloaded the file "raflossie.zip" from Flightsim.com file but can't seem to get it to work. There are no specific installation instructions included in the file so I assumed there was nothing peculiar to it. The file shows up as follows:
Main folder - raflossie
Second tier -Addon Scenery [folder], Readme, 7 pictures
Third tier (within the Addon Scenery folder) - Lossiemouth [folder]
fourth tier (within the Lossiemouth Folder) - Scenery [folder], Texture [folder], Scenery DAT file.

The path I followed in the ADDON Scenery sequence led me to the Third tier "Lossiemouth" folder which I selected for insertion and which showed as the first item on the Scenery Library list (plus the check mark). So far it seems normal. Then I closed and restarted FS2004, selected Lossiemouth AB and opened it. The runways seemed to be in place and the AI flight plan seems OK as the Tornado's were parked and/or moving around the field, but, other than a wind sock, there were no buildings, no vehicles or anything else. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong, or didn't do, or whether I need some other program to make this work? For info, I have NOVA textures, NOVAGOLD, RWY12 and EZ Scenery Library installed. I run FS9 on XP Pro. Help? :?: :?:

Hi Jim,
So until Dale sees your post and responds to you. Can you confirm that you copied the third tier Lossiemouth folder to your FS9 Addon Scenery folder and that is what you added to your FS9 scenery list?
If it is, the sure way of telling whether you have got the scenery installed properly is to delete the Scenery.DAT file inside the Lossiemouth folder. When you restart FS9 it will rebuild that file. If you restart FS9 and it doesn't reappear then you have not added it correctly to your FS9 scenery config.

If it does reappear then the chances are that you have an exclude file for the area somewhere else in your scenery list.

Hi Steve! Yes, I copied the third tier Lossiemouth folder into my FS9 Addon Folder and added it to my Scenery Library list. I will try your suggestion re: the Scenery.DAT file and report the outcome.

Tks for the reply.

I didn't check it in deep and I'm not on the PC with FS9 installed, but I think that this scenery has been made using many objects present in MAIW scenery library.
Have you got other MAIW package already installed?

Giorgio

EDIT: Checked right now.... I'm completely wrong. :smt018 Sorry

I deleted the DAT file, reran FS9 and it rebuilt the file.
I found 4 files in the Scenery folder marked "execlude" (sic) numbered 1-4.
I reran the program without them and found the default buildings had returned. I reinserted the files.
I noticed I made an error in posting the string. I originally stated as follows:
Main folder - raflossie
Second tier -Addon Scenery [folder], Readme, 7 pictures
Third tier (within the Addon Scenery folder) - Lossiemouth [folder]
fourth tier (within the Lossiemouth Folder) - Scenery [folder], Texture [folder], Scenery DAT file.

should read:
Main folder - raflossie
Second tier -Lossiemouth (Addon Scenery folder)
Third tier - Addon scenery [folder], Readme, 7 pictures
Fourth tier (within the Addon Scenery folder) - Lossiemouth [folder]***
Fifth tier (within the Lossiemouth Folder) - Scenery [folder], Texture [folder], Scenery DAT file.

***This is the folder I inserted in the Add-on Scenery Liabrary.
Do 2 folders labled "Lossiemouth" confuse my computer?

You just need to copy the 'lossiemouth' folder and its sub-directories into your '\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery' folder.
That is your 4th tier folder, and activate that one.

The fact the scenery.DAT re-appeared and the effect of the temporary removal of the excludes shows that the folder is activated ok.
If you can confirm that the folder is at the top of the list, when viewed in FS9, then I think that either you have another exclude elsewhere or maybe another lossie afcad that is stamping over it.

If not then you will need Dale to answer your question.

Jim,

You need to have MAIW scenery packages installed to get all the scenery.

You just place it into your addon scenery folder in you main FS9 directory

Hope you enjoy it once you get it working

Hi Dale!
I have the Tornado GR4 package installed, and also a MAIW Scenery Objects Library which pertains to Andrews AB in the US. Are there any other specific scenery packages I need?

Hi Jim,

From what I can remember there was the scenery from RAF Apache package (I think). That should give you all the HAS site and main apron hangars etc...

Tks Dale. I'll search that out. In the meantime, The Owl's Nest has a download for a Scenery Package called "MBC Studios Object Library FS9". Have you any knowledge and experience with that?

Tks Dale. I just downloaded EZ Scenery the other day (big enough to choke an elephant). So as I get into using it, I may call upon you for advice. Meanwhile, I found a Apache MAIW download - "Army Air Corps WAH-64 Apache" for a number of UK airfields. I'll download that and, hopefully, that will solve my issues. Thanks again.

Dale, you have enhanced this old warrior's respect for the young wizards who populate the various SIM forums! I downloaded the "Army Air Corps WAH-64 Apache" and activated the scenery and Lo and Behold - There in all its splendor is Lossiemouth AB. And what a spectacle it is!. Many, many thanks for you assistance. The folks at FlightSim have asked me to post the results of my search as some of them were experiencing the same problem.
