F-15 mix of acft and configuration?

Post by mojo58 »

I was just wondering, i love the look and realism or the Coral F-15's but the handeling and flight characteristics of the Iris freeware F-15. How do you get the best of both worlds?

The process is not dissimilar to converting a flyable plane to use an AI fde. You basically have to copy over the .air file and the aircraft.cfg file. You will need to amend the .cfg for certain parms, apart from the obvious fltsim entries. The entries are related to the model rather than the fde, viewpoint, lights, static height and contact points.

There is one aspect that may need a lot of converting but it depends on the two cg settings, in the weights section. If they are both sets are identical then there is no problem (for example 0, 0 , 0) but if there are different then you will need to move quite a few of the flight parms. This is because the fde wing and tail parms are offset from the datum. If the datum moves then these have to shift accordingly. i.e. if the datum shifts back 15' then the points have to move forward 15'. The lights and contact points that you copied over will need to be readjusted for the same reason. The best tool to help you achieve this is probably ACM.

If you do not do this then the balance of the plane will alter and the flying characteristics will change.

I'll have to take a look at this, the Coral is one of my all time favorites, love the way it flies now. I only downloaded the Mud Hen version from Iris and the VC was killing my framerates, may have to check out the "C" model.

One way to help the fps with the Iris F-15's is to swap out their HUD for the one from the Coral model. If you search on line you can probably find the procedure somewhere.

I think it might be on here as well as this has come up before. Their original HUD display was cool, but killed fps.
