Big Spotters Weekend in the US thanks to Irene

Post by MIKE JG »

With Irene set to plow up the US East coast this weekend, places like NAS Oceana, Langley AFB, NAS Norfolk, Andrews JAFB will probably all be clearing out the majority of their aircraft to inland bases.

Places like Wright-Pat in Ohio tend to host lots of fighters during east coast hurricanes.

Might be a bonanza for some spotters this weekend!

what about the F-22s at Langley, are they just going to fly them below 10,000, or just hanger them?

That is a good question. The F-15E from KGSB were planning to go to KBAD.

I would almost think it's too risky to hangar them, but at the same time, even if they flew them unpressurized at 10,000 ft, are there enough qualified pilots right now to fly them. Last I heard, lots of Raptor drivers were dequaling due to lack of recent flight time.

You would be amazed at what they will wave if the situation is bad enough.
