Sergeant "Pilots" in the RAF.......again.....

Post by delbydoo »

The last Royal Air Force non-commissioned pilot left the service in 1979, but hadn't flown for many years, and the R.A.F. stopped recruiting non-commissioned pilots in the early 50s, (despite having a brief respite in the 60s); it is well known in this country that the Army Air Corps are staffed with commissioned and non-commissioned pilots, but this photo seems to be stating that we do, indeed, once again, have R.A.F. non-commissioned pilots.......he is flying an aeroplane (simulated??)

Could he be a sensor operator? Photographers have been know to make mistakes. The USAF has enlisted sesnor operators as well. Just a thought.

He is definitely an Aircrew Sergeant due to the eagle on his epaulettes, which means that he is now what is known as a Weapon Systems Operator (Electronic Warfare), or in old language, Air Electronics Operator.
