Pretty tasteless, in my opinion, and I'm not normally prone to political correctness.

I don't know whether to be appalled or applaud.
Well for those that like their AI up to the minute, they can't really complain, but it will be a very short lived addon.

Re: Costa Concordia Scenery
Joking apart, I'd hate to be the captain of the Costa Concordia. Boy! Oh! Boy! is he going to be in deep water
... which paradoxically, where he should have bloody been in the first place!
(okay - I lied about the joking apart bit)

OK, you started it!

Re: Costa Concordia Scenery
I smell a challenge Oh Celtic one.
Italian Police are still interviewing the Korean Honeymoon couple found on the Costa Concordia as to the whereabouts of the rescue dog that first found them.

Rescuers today found two Scots passengers alive and well in the Costa Concordia. The Scots told the rescue party to "b*gger off, as they were on an all inclusive package and had 3 more days left"

Re: Costa Concordia Scenery
Oh Goodness...
Definitely interesting if you want to simulate a VFR flight or a rescue operation... but it will be pointless when the beast will be removed.
Maybe the author wanted to issue the scenery as a tribute. In this case it's nothing serious to worry about IMHO. But is it actually so?
What I find frightening about the tragedies happening in this country is the emotional wave following them, and the TV plays a terrific role in amplifying it.
Whenever a murderer of a tragedy takes place the TVs, both private and public, start broadcasting ridiculuos TV programs and Sunday afternoon talk shows have a lot to talk about, perhaps inviting "experts" telling the absolute truth that will need to be discussed with VIPs and "opinionists" saying the most stupid and obvious things.
In 2002, a child was misteriously killed by his mother in Northern Italy and this has been a dominating subject for years. In 2007, British student Meredith Kercher was killed in Perugia and they told us everything about the people who likely murdered her. More recently another girl was killed by her uncle in Southern Italy and the house where she died became a tourist location with people taking photos, restaurants making business and even people organizing guided tours there.
Now it's up to the Costa Concordia wreck. During the last week they told us everything about Captain Schettino and we are now getting used to see all those naval engineers telling what he should or shouldn't have done, and yesterday people started pilgrimaging to the small island of the wreck, few miles offshore of Tuscany, to take photos with the wreck on the background

In other words, we manage to make a national event off any tragedy. It's something that the TV has show, so I HAVE TO SEE IT. Isn't it a shame?
I just wish we too had a serious TV like the BBC!

Re: Costa Concordia Scenery
I do hope you're not being serious. The BBC are no different at all. There is a debate going on in the UK about "dumbing down" of serious TV and the BBC is at the forefront of this phenomenon.james84 wrote:I just wish we too had a serious TV like the BBC!
Believe me, there's not much to be proud of BBC TV these days. The subtle political bias is quite unnerving.
And in general with the British media we have the Leveson Inquiry.

We don't have a Leveson Enquiry, (thanks for the link, BTW), but from what I see it is an action carried out to analyse the merely legal point of view of the behaviour of the press (I'll take a better look after dinner). The problem with the Italian TV is not whether or not the press behaves legally but the general quality of the programs. Too much low quality entertainment an "container programs" instead of culture, science or serious stuff in general, but if you tell me the BBC is turning this bad I'm definitely going to turn the telly off forever!
Re: Costa Concordia Scenery

Yeah, you're right, I couldn't stand that bloody film either.

From interview with a survivor "I had my 2 ribs broken when the captain jumped into the lifeboat right on top of me "
From the tape of the practice evacuation recording
"Don't worry about that women and children first bit "
