Recent Additions to the Fleet

Post by Joecoastie »

As a past crew member, I felt it was my duty to add the latest additions to VX-1's fleet. I present NAVY P-8A BuNo's 167955 and 167956.
956 made the news last month with it's participation in the "Bold Alligator Exercise" off the coast of North and South Carolina.
955 recently visited VP-30 for initial training and familiarization prior to getting their first P-8A.

Quiet Saturday morning on the ramp at KNHK.

I didn't forget the first production P-8A that was delivered to VP-16 last week, either.

Another Saturday morning ramp at KNIP.

AIA Boeing 737-800 winglet model. (I know the production P-8's have the fancy wingtips
and bumps/lumps, weapon pylons and antennas all over the place, but until an AI model
shows up I hope these will do.) I hope to continue the paints as the first ones get delivered
and I can scrounge up pics of how VP-16 and VP-30 paint them up.

As soon as I finish an acceptable basic flight plan and get the textures zipped I'll post them here.

Did you ever download the MAIW Pax River package? It's got the first 3 P-8s in there and we've used the non-winglet model which is a bit closer to the real thing I think.

Yep. Pax River package is what is in the pic's I posted. T-1, T-2 and T-3 belong to VX-20.
Personally I like the winglets - aids drag reduction, ya know? If any one wants my paints and
doesn't like the winglets, lemme know. Easy to accommodate.

Okay, here they are and a small flight plan that uses some waypoints from the MAIW NAS Pax, CGAS E City and MCAS Beaufort packages.
I also used a carrier off the Va coast as a "go to". I believe it's from a scenery pkg. called "Carriers 2006" (?)
I draw vacuum at flight planning, so if they don't work . . . . . at least the A/C show up at their respective bases.

And the caveat . . if you don't like 'em, there are two DEL keys on most keyboards.

Joecoastie,
Thanks for the these, I am tracking the added tail #'s to Pax River, but didn't see/hear about VP-16 getting one already.

I can't find the link that mentioned it was going to VP-16.
I would have thought the first one would have gone to VP-30, as they are the "RAG" squadron (training).

Okay, VP-30 it is. Here's 428 without the VP-16 tail markings. Updated config to VP-30 and updated flight plan to reflect same.

Well I can guess that we can now officially add the P-8 to the list of needed models.
It would be nice if the semi-retired AIA folks modified their 737-800 but i can't ever see that happening.

Well someone was un-retired enough to work on the FSX native versions of most of their models. Not a modeler so I have no idea with that entails or requires within the SDK. I'm using them in my FSX, no issues.

Still not confirmed if VP-30 got this one or -16, who is slated to transition in 3 months. I just need someone to walk on the flightline and look!

I agree, it would mean that we few modelers at MAIW could focus on military AI that have not been developed, period, rather than having to remake the wheel for the sake of a few quick modifications but none the less we are grateful to have there freeware models for all these years to fill our commercial airports.

Not difficult at all to make them FSX native, its just a matter of inspiration to do them. They work fine also in FSX in there original FS9 format, its mostly alpha channel changes to consider if they are being used by the model.
