AI traffic - How to modify the arrival circuit path ?

Post by dva51 »

:) Hi to all
we are caring to a free project (civil one, inside italian lake) and we try to add an AI hydro traffic on it. The goal is to place 5 water airports / runways creating an hydro traffic between these. We did that but, after take-off and initial climb to approx 2200 fts level, (let consider Como lake, Italy, is placed at beginning of Alps montains) the aircraft impacts against the sorrounding mountains.
Correction of route or rising level should be only partial solution, but the main question is :?: how to modify the arrival approach circuit ?
About that, when aircrafts are getting to land and approach the arrival runway, the AI engine drives the aircraft to a traffic circuit so large that ever causes an impact with the sorrounding mountains ! Is it possible to reduce the width of the traffic circuit ?? or find an alternative solution ?
:D Trusting for an answer for a positive result,
many, many thanks in advance  to the great friend that will help us to the solution

Ciao Aldo!
ADE9X allows you to make an approach path with its approach mode, but I still have to understand how it works. By default, FS2004 makes the aircrafts use ILS approaches if available, but airports placed in between or very close to mountains always cause a lot of problems. I noticed the AI aircrafts behave strangely especially when landing if you make a new airport in a similar geography from zero. FS2004 is a "stupid" program: the AI aircrafts don't follow airways, they just fly straigh to their destination, so there is no way to make them avoid any mountains, as you noticed.
It's one of the main limits of FS2004, and as far as I could see it caused several problems to us contributors.
Maybe somebody knows how to solve this?
A presto!

By reprograming AI engine and complete FS, make new product and charge for it :p

For high terrain I am using a ADE9X created Las Vegas McCarren NV that has a curved "fake" ILS approach built in. This allows the AI to fly over the high surrounding terrain and make a very nice looking descending turn to final, in this case 19R at KLAS without flying into the mountains.

Here is the file on Avsim that might provide some useful information:

Jim Vile cracked the FS9 XML code for FS9 airport navaids and developed methods to create more accurate ILS approaches for many airports. His files in the klas_ils_jv.zip file are an example of what he could accomplish with his methods. I use his files for Honolulu International Airport (PHNL) and they work beautifully. Do a search for Jim Vile on Avsim and you'll get a listing of his uploads.

There used to be a forum where he discussed and in essence taught how to use his methods, but unfortunately it disappeared and I am not sure if he moved to another forum to continue the discussions. :(
