4th Expeditionary Air Wing Deployment Pack COMPLETE!

Post by magic1085 »

I am unsure of what the expectations are when it comes to releasing unofficial packs, so until I receive some direction on how to handle the AFCADs and other files, I will just announce it here!

After spending a week and a scary amount of time on my favorite hobby, my first pack, a hypothetical deployment of the 4th Expeditionary Air Wing, from bases all over the globe to Ahmed Al Jabar Air Base, Kuwait to conduct combat operations into Ubaydah Bin Al Jarrah AB, Iraq (Z16E), is COMPLETE!

I chose this gem of an Air Base because it could handle the amount of traffic I was going to put into it...and the secondary runway, used only for departures is "only" 10180 ft!

This pack contains 117 Plans, accounting for 4,968 legs, between 21 Airports...

As you can see from these AITM airport statistics, things get a little busy, but with a max of only 50 gates in use, things flow very smoothly..although AISmooth IS recommended

Airport Timetable Statistics - 3/30/2007 4:46:13 PM

23:00:00-23:59:59 -> Arrivals 029 - Departures 012

The Aircraft are broken down as follows:

8 C-17s From Hickam
6 KC-135Rs from Eielson
4 C-5s From Wright-Patterson
6 C-130s From Hickam
3 E-3Cs From Tinker
3 E-8Cs From Tinker
12 A-10s from Eielson
12 F-15s from Klameth Falls, Ore.
12 F-16s from JRB Ft. Worth
12 F-16s from Shaw <-- I knows these guys come from McEntire ANGB, but no such airport exists in FS and as this was a learning experience for me I don't feel ready to tackle creating an entirely new airport!
12 F-18s out of Cold Bay, Alberta <-- Had to substitute the Canadian 18s due to the FPS hit when combined with the -15s
4 F-117s from Holloman
6 B-1s From Dyess
3 B-52s from Barksdale
3 B-2s from Whiteman
12 Tornados from the Italian Air Force, operating out of Piacenza
4 EA-6Bs from the US Marines out of Cherry Point, NC

Once I figure out what the standards are on giving out files to everybody I will be more than happy to zip them all up for you so that you all might enjoy this pack as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Nice work.
We would ask that if you are including MAIW models, scenery or afcads that you do not include them in a released package. Obviously, you may point to where to download any relevant files on Avsim.

Not being daft but when it comes to packages like this why not work together and release it as an official pack?

Because it would be released sometime towards the end of summer. We encourage you to do your own projects and even to release them to Avsim. Not everything has to be MAIW.

McEntire ANGB does exist in FS, go into AFCAD and search for KMMT.

No not everything has to be MAIW but it does make it easier for Joe public, not sure what releasing at the end of Summer has to do with being MAIW or not though, do you guys plan on vanishing by then?

For me, the whole purpose of this pack was so that I could learn what goes into making such a pack..

I have never made a FP, or edited an afcad before, didn't even have the tools to do it...

So the pack is rather simple, basically concentrating coordinating moving large numbers of aircraft from many different places as the military does in real life. I also worked hard to make sure that the airports, while very busy, aren't jammed, where arrivals, come in relatively smoothly within the confines of the AI system...and everything works like a real military base...

To my way of thinking, this pack is much too simple for any sort of official release.

Now if I were to tinker with the FPs more and send them to 20 or 30 different destinations, that would be a different story.

So that being said, I learned a ton...about the do's and don'ts of designing flight plans...just how much work goes into creating a workable afcad, especially at an airport that just has runways and nothing else...

I am going to look to steadily ramp up the complexity of my projects so that I might be able to do a project like this that would be in a truly release worthy level of quality.

Just my .02

Sounds good guys, the beta testing is always a bitch but definitely worth it, my beta team have saved my bacon more than a few times
