On a similar vein I recently read how the US is in negotiations with Beriev about an order of Be-200s to replace the entire fire fighting fleet. If it comes off then there the SBAI model will be put to good use.

Nice shot rke! Easy enough to get them flying low down, sadly FS means no contour following, also no real way of making it "drop" retardant, the only possible way I can think of would also have it dropping retardant as it lands which would look a little daft.

You won't see the BE 200 as a fix all. Most tanker bases couldn't accept it. Most bases can't even accept MAFFS. Air Tractor told uncle sam they'd start a MEAT with over 2,000 gallons if the government paid the development cost. The 146's look like the future for now though.

I guess it could work in CA and the Pacific NW, as long as the fires are near the coast. I do not think this would be practical or even feasable in the Rocky's or midwest.

I'd just like to say that our hearts go out to all those people in the U.S. that have/are being ravaged by distructive bushfires and to all the firefighters and volunteers.

You do know that we DO have lakes & rivers here in the Midwest?

Actually, not the expert, but I would think "scooping" H2O off of a calmer lake would beat the daylights out of trying in open ocean, or salt-water extension (Puget, or SF bay, for example) In the "midwest" we do have the Great Lakes (20% of the world's fresh water), and there are there are any number of Corps of Enigineers flood control structures (commonly know as "lakes", or "reservoirs") that would fit the bill in the great plains or west - Meade, Powell,. or even Oahe, come to mind. For the BE-200 to operate, it only needs 7,000 - 7,500 feet of open water (roughly 1.3 to 1.5 miles). Actually, quite a number of lakes, in each state would work - come to think of it

You can time any effect used in FS9. Just a matter of inserting the control. It would take some trial and error to get the timing of the effect just right.
