Using ORBX? How does it mesh/fit with MAIW bases?

Post by Ripcord »

I have pretty much all the ORBX packages with the exception of Australia -- and I'll get that one as well, because this product is damn good. Just haven't had time to fly over what I've already purchased and installed.

That said, I've got a helluva lot of time invested in my MAIW traffic. Not all of it works or even looks good so it has been an on-going process of working my way thru the world, creating polygons to exclude and flatten and fix a landclass here and there. But still, there is a lot of really good work here - just a matter of getting it to mesh with my existing terrain in FSX.

The first thing I tried was KNUW which seems to fit OK into the ORBX Pacific NW scenery. Not having as much luck finding a scenery I like for KTCM -- here I'm having some trouble with the old default buildings poking thru, not sure how to fix that.

England is what I am going thru now and checking. My apache bases and chinook bases looked like hell before, so I basically just removed them, in favor of the plain old ORBX versions.

I wanted to check and see what others are doing -- anybody else using ORBX and MAIW together?

It is almost criminal what they did with the UK military bases in ORBX England. They look really very good, actually was quite pleased with them from that standpoint. Except they totally neglected to ADD PARKING SPOTS. I mean, Marham AB has 3 spots. There was ONE C-130 on the tarmac at Fairford. RAF Cranwell had zero parking.

I think what I might do is just run thru these ORBX UK bases in ADE and add in the parking spots. Might be actually faster than trying to mix and match and pick and choose.

Rip;
Sorry, this has nothing to do with your current post, just a question on one of your statements in a previous post.
KNQX - by chance were you in VX-1 P-3's ?

No, not me. I was up at NAS Brunswick. I did get to visit PAX river once or twice, briefly, but that is about it.

Whoa ! Guess I'm showing my age. I was referring to VX-1 when it was at Key West. My '65 to '69 tour there was the best shore duty going!
