East Coast Hornet AI?

Post by Ripcord »

I just got around to installing the US Navy Tranports part 4, with the new AFCAD for KNTU, and I noted the parking codes. Then I began digging around for the AI files for all those East Coast FA-18 squadrons and found none - only VFA-106 from the gladiator package and some reserve hornet visitors as well as the VFC aggressor traffic. NAS Lemoore, on the other hand, is nice and full, with all the tenant squadron birds parked there, so I started to wonder.....

So am I missing something? Are there AI repaints and traffic files for the East Coast Hornet squadrons based there at NAS Oceana?

Searched for Hornet and for KNTU. No results for VFA. Didn't find it, so that is why I posted.

Thanks Victory, I will take a look.

I seem to be unable to find Nick Black's E_JDAM model for the Superhornet, as well as E_5-wet

sim=NBAI_FA18E-F_Super_Hornet_Dry_AI_ONLY
model=E_JDAM

sim=NBAI_FA18E-F_Super_Hornet_Dry_AI_ONLY
model=E_5-Wet

I am, however, able to find them for the F variant, eg., F_JDAM and F_5-Wet.... perhaps a typo?

EDIT: I seem to be improving my search function skills:

http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... AM#p114640

So there is no E_JDAM or E_5-Wet, as there is also not a model called E_CAS.

Not quite sure what to do here to modify these. If I use another model, then the textures will not fit, correct?

I did note the excel file for the hornet models earlier, thank you for that. However there are 3 models that I could not locate, and they are not listed in your excel spreadsheet.

Really not sure what to do -- would like to change the models to something else, some other model, but that did not seem to work.

EDIT: I did find this in another thread -- Steve had it in his files.
model=E_5-Wet

So now all I had to do was change E_JDAM to something else, as well as E_CAS. Still haven't gotten them to show up, so there might be yet another issue.

Right on! Thanks Steve!

I'll give these a try shortly and report back!

Thanks

EDIT: Still no joy. Pretty much baffled, as I have all my other hornet packages working & showing up.

EDIT #2 -- this might be my issue here (AI Flight Planner for FSX not being the current version)..... testing now
http://www.militaryaiworks.com/newforum ... up#p116817

EDIT #3: Damn, still no joy.

Now I really have no inkling what the problem might be.

Please Firebird, continue to search this attic above the MAIW factory hangar! Thanks for these.

Ripcord,
1. You used AIFP2, even without the latest version all should convert fine.
2. Traffic % setting correct?
3. What AFD file are you using?
4. Do you use AIEditor program from Owl's Nest to check for aircraft.cfg issues?

Yes, I did use AIFP version 2.2.03 -- and it has always worked for me before.

Traffic % is set at 1 for all flight plans in this package.

Using the AF file out of this US Navy Transports package part 4 -- MAIW_AF2_KNTU_Custom. Did I understand the question correctly here, about which AFD file I am using?

Lastly, no. I've not tried this AIEditor program to check for aircraft.cfg issues, so I'll do that next. Good Gouge, thanks for that suggestion.

Will report back. Thanks again guys

I think this is probally the step that helped me resolve this ==> using AIEditor program from Owl's Nest to check for aircraft.cfg issues

By using this tool for about 5 minutes (or less), I noticed that was lacking some kind of .air file.

Turned out I had noticed it in other AI packages, but in the file menu it is called a package installer of somekind, so I paid it no mind. When I right clicked on it, I saw that does indeed have a file extension *.air -- so I just copied them out of other hornet packages, hoping that would be the missing link.

Makes sense that it won't work without an air file. But I am not sure I have understood where the air files is missing, Rip. Can you please tell again?

By the way, I love how this story ends with the AI-Aircraft Editor... :smt002

Well, maybe not missing. See, when you download Aaron Haase Oceana Hornet's package, it isn't really a package at all. It is just the textures and the aircraft.cfg file. You have to have Nick Blacks Hornet models, but since I had all the other MAIW hornet packages installed and working, I figured that I would simply need to copy over the models and then intall the traffic files using AIFP. Simple right?

Problem was that I didn't have all the models (thanks Firebird for digging up the missing ones) and I just didn't know about the .air file being a requirement. Never before had I manually put the model and textures together. So now I know what all goes in there.

Thanks again all for the hints and the nudges in the right direction.

Thanks Rip. Do you by any chance have the link for the Aaron Haase package still available? It is missing on my AI reference.

Martin,
Here is the description link

Here is the download Link for the FS2004 NAS Oceana Hornets.
http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php ... fid=162180

I can't access AVSIM from work so I don't know if it is there or not.

Thank you very much, Les.

There is a whole bunch of Aaron's solo work on Flightsim. For reasons beyond explanation I kept looking on AVSim for this file :roll:
