A Short Video of Some Military AI Departures From KBTV

Post by mikewmac »

I've been learning how to create FSX videos of Military AI and below is a link to my second attempt.

http://youtu.be/-kxW2uzJdhE

It isn't really all that great, but is a big improvement over my first attempt.

Very good! Mike, where are the FSX JMAI UH-60 BlackHawks to be found ?

Thanks Rip. I'm glad that you liked the video. :D

I'll be making some more of these and hopefully they will get better with time.

The FSX JMAI UH-60 BlackHawks are my personal WIP prototypes. They don't actually meet MAIW standards for AI since they are derivatives of Jordan Moore's flyable FS9 UH-60 BlackHawks that I am currently converting and testing as AI for FSX.

I'm a "newbie" in FSX and currently feel like I am "drinking from a fire hose" as I try to learn all the significant differences between FS9 and FSX.

Mike, great job on the vid. A few ideas, add model credits, add file names of the packages/scenery you used (if released). Are you having Editvoicepack accelerate the radio traffic?

Of course I have to comment on the H-60's, are you using the payware program Helitraffic? I am also trying my hand at FSDS for the JM H-60 series, like you I am just starting and learning alot, or messing things up and starting over. Right now trying to figure ways to get the poly count down. The ZZZH models from Hovercontrol are a good start, just need to import them to .FSC files. I have deleted the pilot figures, and would like to swap in the NBAI CH-47 figures in their place.

Yes, I used EditVoicepack to increase the speed of the radio traffic slightly and to import custom call signs and airport names I had created for FS9.

Yes, I am using HeliTraffic 2009 to schedule all my AI helicopter flights in FSX in order to get the more realistic takeoffs and landings. It's a little quirky to work with at first, but after you work with it for a while you can create some nice AI flights.

I don't plan to do anything with the source files for JM's UH-60 models, so I'll leave that for you and others to do. I find that with only 6 AI helicopters flying there is very little impact on the FPS at my current FSX KBTV setup. My focus has been on repaints, textures and AI FDE's utilizing some of the work I've done over the years for FS9 military AI helicopters.

          Mike;
I was gonna ask if you were using HeliTraffic 2009. I've been using it since it came out and find it very good at simulating actual heli ops. I had one file in FS9 that had helos doing replenishment at sea off the coast of Va. with task force of a carrier, three or four escort DD's and an LPH using a H46. In my FSX I have the local EMS helo flying to a wreck, then off to the rooftop helo pad at UVA Hosp, then get called to another emergency. I've also used it for my Coastie helos down in Eliz. City.

Hope you might think of sharing when you get the Blackhawk sorted out. Would like to have a UH-60 to replicate my old ANG helo unit at KRIC.

Might have to reconsider the Helitraffic program after seeing that and Joe's inputs. Scenery looks great as well for BTV. I had the old pre-MAIW New England AI packs with basic repaints for the ARNG H-60's in my FS9 set up.

I do understand the modelling, trying to use the tutorials here and basic trail and error. There was an individual a few years ago that made AI models using JM's OSD kits for at least the USN H-60 series, I've about giving up on finding him.

Mike, would you mind sharing what you have so far, even as WIP? I have so far been unable to adapt Jordan Moore's S-70 package and get them working. I'd like to see what you have and maybe use that.

          Rip,

What S-70 package were you working with and what exactly were you trying to accomplish? Did you just want to get some S-70 BlackHawks flying in HeliTraffic 2009?

I ask because I created a quickie HeliTraffic 2009 AI FDE for use with the Sikorsky S-70A Pack V1 by lightningbolt0569 (which was based on Jordan Moore's models) and have had some S-70A-9 BlackHawks flying randomly around KBTV with HeliTraffic 2009.

            Mike,
Working with Jordan's OSD kit he released years ago on Hovercontrol for both the UH and SH series. I do have the ADF AI models that were based off the kit, for the S-70A and B currently in the sim, although in limited quantities.

Didn't take much initial interest in HeliTraffic, but will have a look.

            Chris,

HeliTraffic 2009 is probably not for everyone since it has its pros and cons.

The major pro is that it works off a separate AI engine which gives the AI helicopters more realistic takeoffs and landings from their helipads/parking spots, provides more realistic background AI helicopter operations and affords one the opportunity to create some unique AI flights using the HeliTraffic 2009 AI flight scheduler since it allows the creation of waypoints in the AI flight routes.

On the con side, since it works off a separate AI engine, its AI helicopters are totally independent of FS9/X AI tools, addons, viewers, ATC, etc. and an AI spot view for following its AI flights is not provided. Also the HeliTraffic 2009 AI flight scheduler seems to frustrate some users, since it only enables you to create AI flight routes and the time an AI helicopter spends at any given helipad/parking spot, but not the actual times for these flights to be flown, since the latter seem to be randomly set each time you start the FS9/X.
