Install prob in FSX

Post by WhiskeyJake »

Not sure what I did yet, but maybe someone here might.
Just installed Beaufort MCAS to FSX and saw plenty of planes and nice Base, looked great.
Installed Pensacola NAS, no planes at all. Any suggestions on where to look for my error, I thought I did the same for both.
One confusing part was the "MAIW Scenery Library Objects” and “MAIW Land Class” folders, are they in all downloads? I didn't see them in the Pensacola, but it said to install so I took them out of the MCAS install.

Any suggestions

No those folders are not in all downloads. If you tried a manual install, i.e. install to a temp folder of your choice, and looked in that folder you would see those folders in the same place of the file structure as you would any airbase scenery folder, i.e. in the addon scenery folder.

They are included in several downloads and if you installed and activated them once then any additions that any new packages place in them will automatically get picked up.

You couldn't have the folders in more than one location unless you manually duplicated them, and moved them around. If you are saying that you manually added the folders from another package and activated them then it is not an issue it will just save you doing that at a later time.

Does this answer your question?

Yes as far as those 2 folders.

Thanks, but what might have happened to all the planes for Pensacola??

I thought I would try a different base, this time Eglin AFB. Same result no Military planes and only 6 AI GA.

So the only one that seems to work is MCAS Beaufort,SC.

I've done all the same, even had to use ADE to fix numeorus parking duplicates at Pensacola.

Any ideas????

Well the obvious thing to check would be that ALL your traffic files are FSX format. If any of them are FS9 format then ones that are FSX will not show up in that area. Don't forget that traffic files can be anywhere in the config tree, i.e. in scenery folders.

I think we might be getting somethere. I removed every traffic file I could find, except the previous MAIW 4, and they said they were converted. They all had the "_FSX" at end. Still the only one showing Military aircraft is Beaufort, but now no GA AI.
All the traffic files in question were the WOAI, which I changed to the "_FSX" end and lost all AI, except when I took the "_FSX" off the WOAI traffic they came back.
Then went to ShawAFB picked up two F-18's in the view menu, that were doing TNG's in the trees somewhere.
Still no changes at MCAS.
After checking Eglin AFB, FSX show no Military parking but ADE show plenty.. Could this be the problem????

Another note. The only one that I had to activate in FSX was the MCAS, there wasn't anything from the other 3 in ADDON scenery \scenery folder.

I'm getting more lost as i go

Just so nobody gets confused here you didn't just rename the files to include '_FSX' you did actually convert them with one of the various tools around. Also when you talked about taking off '_FSX' things were changing, that would not affect anything at all. It is what format the traffic is compiled as and not the name of the traffic file.

Also just to clarify can you confirm that Beaufort is working all OK. If it is then lets move on to one that doesn't work, Pensacola I think you said.

*EDIT*
One other thing that I should ask, again basic question, do you have the 'Hide extensions for known filetypes' ticked or not? The reason i ask is that a few years ago 4 people at work were trying to work out why a word doc called 'Work_test.doc' wouldn't load when selected on a html page. It took me 5 mins to realise that the file was actually called 'work_test.doc.doc' with the extension hidden and so the file they were looking for didn't exist.

Correct MCAS Beaufort is the only one I see aircraft although haven't seen one move yet.

Pensacola was the next.

Extensions aren't hidden.

I used AIFP to check files.

Check also to see that your scenery is listed ahead of other scenery in your scenery list.

As for Pensacola, I had some issues with one specific type of aircraft, and that was the parking radius. It is figured differently in FSX than it is in FS9. So I adjusted my parking sizes and all my aircraft appeared. Now, mind you, I think I was tweaking a Jim Dhaenens version of NAS Pensacola and I am still not done adding in some of the parking.

I installed on a different PC and had no prob, so I installed on a different HD in prob PC;no problem.
I'm really confused as the HD in question is a new SSD I wanted just for FSX, so it has a clean install of FSX....
Think it could just be the HD???

OK please define what you installed and what is no problems - did you install the pensacola scenery on the different PC? same question for different HD? And as for having no problems, does that mean the AI at pensacola were showing up?

I do not see how the hard drive could be the problem if Beaufort MCAS seems to be working OK for you.

Yes I have 3 PC's running different Sims, so I set up FSX on another and installed Pensacola and it seemed to work(had AI that did work)

I agree now, as I tried to install Eglin AFB (on 2nd PC where Pensacola works), no AI.

Like I posted previously I noticed in the Eglin install there were no Addon scenery that had to be activated in Scenery Library. Did I miss something?

No you didn't miss anything. The Eglin package has no scenery enhancements, just an afcad. It is quite an old package now and maybe if it gets updated there maybe additional scenery added.

So if there is no traffic there then check the parking spot sizes as they are different in FSX to FS9.

Note-
I also had some F-35 statics there(did not put there), checked on other FSX PC and there are no statics.
Strange
I will compare the two and see what is different.

Not sure on check parking sizes, explain how and where.

Thanks for your help

I just went into ADE and at Eglin I found 3 Radius Parking sizes: 33.01' 39.99' & 50'

Is that what you were talking about??

Yes. What you need to do is to check whether the wingspan in the aircraft.cfg is less than double the parking radius. In FS9 the aircraft radius is built into the model. In FSX it takes it from the fde and ignores the built in mdl parameter.

Well, it might be wrong, just depends on which aircraft (and their radius in the aircraft.cfg file) that supposed to be landing & parking there. But we can fix those later -- for testing purposes, make a handful of them big, real big in a few spots and see what happens.
